Thing is, it's not thier problem. When you change the game you are changing the experience you have with it. Like said, you could make Mario naked in Super Mario Bros. 1 with a game genie, and with IPS patches you can make almost any rom-based game contain nudity.

The code SHOULD have been taken out in the first place but the excuses that Rockstar/Take Two used (saying that the code was added in which is impossible since you can't modify DVD data) were asinine.

It should have been taken out in the first place, just to avoid a situation like this, but it's still not Rockstar's fault. Thier original excuse ruined any chances of them defending against this, though.

Whats AO stand for Adult ****?

As other people said, Adults Only. To briefly explain further... AO is the highest rating a game can get. It's only 18+ while the next highest, M, is 17+, but it is much worse because M is the highest rating many stores will carry. Like said, M is similar to R and AO is similar to NC17. There are plenty of NC17 movies released each year, but most movie theaters will not carry them. In most states this system is self-enforced.

EDIT: "But Emptyeye wut about teh congressmens who want 2 deni me my rite to fuk and sh00t hookars!!!11?1/1?" Well, maybe they should've considered that angle before deciding to A. effectively bypass the ESRB rating process, and B. pull an Ashlee Simpson and blame everyone but themselves for it.

I have given point A some thought in the past, but I highly doubt it. It just doesn't seem realistic that developers would start putting "hidden" porn in thier games that can be unlocked with Gameshark, just to sell an AO product as M. We have a seperate industry for smut, people aren't going to be putting it into video games as a way to sell more copies. Sure GTA simulates sex with prostitues, but it's non-explicit. It's meant to be part of the experience, and not meant to get anyone aroused.

Stronger game testing to make sure that nothing like this slips through the cracks again? Hell yeah.

This is Rockstar's kick in the face, which they have needed for SO long, for not testing their games.

I agree that Rockstar's games are buggy as shit and need more testing, but Hot Coffee has nothing to do with that issue. All the play-testing in the world would not have stopped Hot Coffee, because it does not appear without using a 3rd-party device to change certain lines of code, and thus would have never occured in normal play testing.

My overall opinion:

At first I thought they should just change the console version's ratings because of this, because the DVD's data cannot be directly edited, but a PC version is easily moddable and thus anyone could add anything to the game they wanted to given enough time and know-how. However, I now I really think that no ratings should have been changed. It is not Rockstar's fault that people found this. They bought a piece of 3rd party hardware that Rockstar did not endorse, they found 3rd party code that Rockstar did not endorse and was written for the game without Rockstar's permission, the player then hooked it up to the PS2 with San Andreas in the drive without Sony's or Rockstar's permission, then used the "cheat" code without Rockstar's permission, and used it to run game code that Rockstar would not have wanted to be run, that Rockstar would not have allowed them to run had they known it would be done, and that Rockstar alltogether did not endorse or even acknowledge the existence of.

Same as in the example with The Sims. What if I make mods for other games that make them pornographic? What if I write mods that you can download as .exe's off the internet that splice hardcore pornography into Reader Rabbit? Should those games be taken off the shelves just because of my unauthorized and unwanted mod? I know this is slightly different, because the Hot Coffee data was already on the DVD, but the same principle drives both thoughts. If it cannot be accessed without changing the program without permission of the people who programmed it, then it should not be considered part of the game's content as far as rating it goes.

Of course, this all works out in the end, because GTA should be rated fucking AO anways. Our moral system in America is entirely disaligned. Thanks a lot, Hillary Clinton. Before this I might have voted for you over another religious right-winger, but you honestly are making Bush look pretty good in comparison.

I think the solution to these problems is clear: someone needs to make a mod of something that allows us to kill Jack Thompson.

But anyway, he shouldn't be allowed to do this sort of crap. He's trying to bring down the entire industry because of the potential for inappropriate content. Tell me: what would a pedophile gain from removing the blurs in The Sims 2? A pedophile would be able to 'rehearse' just as well with clothed children or naked children who are hidden behind the blur.

Additionally, as has already been said, the methods being used to make these games inappropriate aren't endorsed by the developers and publishers responsible for the games. Just about any game can be made inappropriate by hacking them; what's so special about GTA and The Sims? Developers aren't responsible for what gamers do TO their games, but rather what gamers can do in those games through normal gameplay. Inappropriate content can be added to anything, but so long as it's not normally accessible, no problem.

This guy really needs to shut the hell up. He's being a complete and utter dumbass.

Umm... no. Trey Parker and Matt Stone have stated on many occasions that they are able to do such timely jokes as that one because they make the episodes about week before they air.

Surprised nobody mentioned this yet... How much you wanna bet a few bored, horny programmers just stuck this in as a joke, unknown to the rest of the company, and forgot to remove it (or intentionally left it)?

Doubt it because the code was (likely) checked over SEVERAL times and something that sizable wouldn't slip past people.

Even if it's a political game, all these FTC investigations and allegations aren't going to help Take Two's image. :\

But this particular instance, your brain-dead fool, it is a long running joke in South Park.

For more information see "Not Without My Anus" or about the 3 billion other episodes where Saddam-Canada jokes occur.

Normally, yes. But this is Rock Star. They don't check their code, they just program it, compile it and release it.

Uh, i just read that new thing on gamespot, seriously, does he really think that EA is supporting the mod community that takes out the blur. Thank God they didn't make a hack that just straight up put's true porn in the game. I do agree with a lot of you that the violence in GTA earns it an AO rating anyway, but I'm sick and tired of these people who are trying to do what they think is best for the world without really taking a look at the rest of the US community. If you look at some of the TV shows on television, also quite easily accesesable to young kids, you'd be appaled, or at least mildly offended. Basicaly, all thses people attacking games think that video games are one of those things that parents are not responsible for their children. If a parent lets a child buy the SIMS and then lets the child use the internet to put "porn" into it, then taht's just a fucking stupid parent, or a clever kid who probably is watching regular porn anyway. I ahte people who don't think that parents are responsible for their kids, if you can't take it don't have kids.

Now some greedy nincompoop is suing Rockstar because she bought the game for her 14-year-old grandson and didn't know it had ZOMG TEH BOOBIES in it. What the hell part of "M-rated" does she not comprehend? And, as has been mentioned many times during discussions on the subject, fuckloads of gang violence, swearing, and racial slurs are just dandy, but a sex scene will corrupt the poor teenager forever and ever? The kid is probably beating off to naked pictures already, so somehow I doubt that it would warp his fragile mind. Granny is in desperate need of a beating with the clue bat.
