| I've was using the 1.0.3 Matroska Fullpack to play .mkv for a while there (via MPC or Jetaudio), but then audio synking (7 to 12 seconds off right from start) problems along with video stalling and skipping became a problem. So I installed 1.1.1 Matroska Fullpack. And then it went to hell in a handbasket. Crappy AV was replaced by a green picture with no audio followed by my player crashing. So I uninstalled that and tried using 1.1.1 Litepack. Same problem ocurred. I can still play .mkv files though VLC player though. Video problems are still there but this can be sloved though playing at half speed. However, watching a 30 minute file made an hour long makes me a sad panda.  Any suggestions? |

| have you tried lazyman's MKV codec? if that doesn't help, your processor speed is a little on the slow side...but if others have problems playing the video, then it is the video itself. you might improve speed by having only MPC as the only program running |

| Oh yeah, it's definitely your computer speed. I used to have a 333 Pentium III and had problems just playing AVI's sometimes. MKV's were just a mess. I'm surprised you're able to play them well at all. | |||

| Problem: Attempt to play MKV files using Windows Media. Solution: VLC I had the same problem. WMP is just too bloated; it uses up all your resources with bad programming and unnecessary features. Unfortunately this is a feature of the Windows video system, so anything that uses it (which just about every video player does) will do the same. VLC uses its own core, though, which allows me to play them at up to 4x speed perfectly. It's compatible with everything except certain WMVs (God that format sucks  ), and doesn't have the restrictions the built-in core has; you can change speed and jump back and forth through anything, turn the video off, etc. It is kinda buggy, but it's just so much better than WMP or anything based on it. |

| Um... I already use VLC. And I use MPC (by Gabest), WMP I've preaty much disabled from my system completely and would be uninstalled if I know the backlashes to that, or if I could find the uninstaller. My system speed again has proven to be the main problem of my computer's profromence. l |

Ah, well, it might just be too slow then. You could get VirtualDubMod and re-encode them to a higher quality, maybe save in another format like AVI. This won't actually increase the quality, but it will reduce the compression rate; this means bigger files but you may not have so much trouble playing them. I'm not sure if VDM can actually do that, though.  (But it seems you really only need a CPU upgrade... They work great for me with 192MB, so I doubt RAM is a big problem. You really should just upgade the entire thing, though; you can get a decent motherboard, CPU and RAM for like 300 bucks.) |
