60 years ago today, the first atomic bomb, known as Trinity, was tested. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity_test And so began human use of the nuclear(weak) force. |

So this is the anniversery of when it was first tested? Not when it was first thought of, or invented, or constructed? Just tested? Okay Well I guess the testing did inspire stuff like Godzilla but other than that it really doesn't seen that special to me. Sorry to ruin it for you. Just saying... ...What?!? |

Yeah, you see...That one test, had it failed, would've probably set back the course of nuclear armanents enough to have dissuaded further American and Russian research as well as been a negative to signal to the Chinese, English and French about exploration into the topic. Sorry to ruin it for you, but what happened on that field in New Mexico has changed our world beyond all imagining. |

He did pull out of the ABMT. I'd say the only people celebrating are the Rapturists that inhabit the Americas waiting for the Russians to start bombing Israel like what they think will happen. |

I hope that if there is a suffecient reason for us to use it then the government will have the balls to use it. But I guess I shouldn't worry about that, because out of all the countries and 'terroristic' groups that America has investigated for nuclear weapons, guess who's the only country to ever use a nuclear weapon? Other than testing of course. America. That's right. Two atom bombs. That was us. Not Iraq, not North Korea, it was us. And I'm proud. We saved many lives. Yes we saved more lives than we ended...remember D-day? |

Ummmm...The Japanese offered a conditional surrender before and after Hiroshima. | |||

Answer to Danielle: So you won a debate about it? Maybe you were better Debaters. The quality of a bill/resolution...except on special occasions...has little to do with the outcome of the debate. Uh...I'm guessing that you are talking about actual Debate and not just an argument? Oh well, it's the same either way. Answer to Ziff: And I never knew that there was a conditional surrender offered before hand...I had never hear of that. That's very interesting. But it could be that the conditions were un-acceptable to the US Government. So they bombed the crap out of them and then said, 'how about a re-negotiation'. You know I'm right. Any way do you know what the original terms were, that would be interesting to hear. Oh and on a side not did you know that the US had two other major cities targeted if the Japanese were still un-willing... (edited by Possessed on 07-18-05 12:46 AM) |

Yeah, that's right. Let's kill 300'000 people and irradiate the land because the treaty stated that the Emperor was not to be tried as a war-criminal. Yeah, but they backed off that idea. It was safer to risk the invasion and lose the troops than to face the potential dangers of bombing Osaka and Kyoto. Tokyo was never considered a target, ever. Either way...The dropping of those bombs was wrong and unwarrented. |
