Ok here is only a suggestion or an idea; I think it would be cool a program were you could in someway use midis music to play during the game. That will give us the choice to use any music and it could be program in a way that you could select a midi for each level or event or etc.Because no one could make a complete Sound/Music Editor yet,I think new ideas should born. Ok,so what you think?

Yeah that would be awesome! I wouldn't mind that at all! Or at least be able to export the SPC's and import SPC's of your choice! I'm not crazy about editing music but I wouldn't mind putting a variety of SPC's from other games into Super Mario World.

That'd be nice - but I don't think anyone is doing it. If someone did, and I know who they are - they will be showered with fortune and glory just kidding. But A LOT of people would be very, very happy. The MIDI's in SMW are so repetitive

Ok.

YOU CANNOT IMPORT MIDI'S INTO ANY SUPER NINTENDO GAMES.

maybe wav, such as d4s demonstrated....but that would sacrifice a LOT of sound data.

This thread makes me sick to my stomach.

SMW does not use MIDI files. SPC is a totally different format.

But you'd still be wrong to say that one cannot be converted into another. A WAV file is vastly different from an MP3 which is very different from MIDI which is very different from SPC. But with the know how, converting any format to the next is very possible.

We'd all like a music editor for Super Mario World. So just wait until Blackhole finishes Solar Soundtrack.

I didn't said import midis into super nes .That's not my point,I mean about a program that let you for a example ,program a midi editor and you select and program the songs you want for each level or whatever. That's all. Ok I'm waiting for Solar Soundtrack ,but I just brought an idea and maybe someone could make it ,and even release it before SS.

Super Mario World is a game for the Super Nintendo. If you wanted to make music for its levels you'd need to convert it to SPC format and not MIDI which is a totally different format.

Unless you're talking about a program that would somehow interact with your emulator (or perhaps an emulator add on) that would play midi files based on the levels. But that would be even more difficult than just making the damn SPC and it would be incompatible with other emulator types.

This idea of yours makes no sense. If you want to play music during Super Mario World turn the sound off and get a fucking boombox.

I think I understand the idea...

Basically, you want a program that runs in the background and automatically play a MIDI according to the situation in the emulator?

For exemple, when you enter a level labelled with the music "Water", the program will run the according MIDI.

That's what you meant?

Random idiot says: PAH! What do you do if you use a flash cart, huh? huh? HUH?!? HAHAHA!!!1111 LOLZ0R5!!1111!! YOUR IDEA SUCKS!!!111!!

*random idiot is punched by a random guy*

For those who absolutely want to play the roms on their SNES... well, sorry. I consider that this program, if it's completed before Solar Soundtrack, would serve as a gimmick to help us wait until Solar Soundtrack is done.

However, I fear the program will maybe become useless once Solar Soundtrack is released.

On another hand... you could always mute the sound of your emulator, reduce the size of the window, and then play the musics yourself during pauses between levels.

If the emulator can disable only music, not the whole sounds, the problem would be solved.
FuSoYa made another version of Snes9x, maybe, Maybe he'll make something like that.
maybe....

There are emulators that do that. In fact, I think ZNES can do that. I thought I did it at one point in ZNES, anyway. Or maybe it was VBA. I did it during one of the systems that can run Rockman and Forte/Megaman and Bass, anyway...

ZSnes can disable sound channels, but on many games that's not the same as disabling music.

Hmmm... well, actually it would be pretty cool to have until Solar Soundtrack... when is that memory leak going to get fixed!?

Well, here is a theory. We could have an emulator made for playing SMW hacks but included would be a .txt or .dll (or whatever is better) that the emulator reads in a certain format featuring the info for the music, sort of like...

(Level #) - (Music.mid)

For example, for a sample hack with only the first 4 levels edit, the .txt/.dll/.whatever would look like...

1 - Grassland.mid
2 - KSSboss.mid
3 - YIElevator.mid
4 - One_Winged_Angel.mid

Please take note that I probably wouldn't use those music files, I couldn't figure out what would be good so I just put names of some old MID's I had... a very long while ago.

It would be simple, but would have to be game specific for it to work. Otherwise, the music thing won't work.

Well, it would be nice, but I would rather wait to see how long it will be before Solar Soundtrack is released. It is past February, so it should be done anytime soon...

I really do not see any reason to get so damned pissed over someone asking a simple question.

Yes, similar threads have been started in the past about things such as this.

But this guy may not have known this.

He may have thought that no one has asked yet.

In short, i think getting so pissed at a person for asking anything is uncalled for, and would also drive people away.

It is called a search for knowledge.
You ask a question to get an understanding of things.

I mean, come on, can't we be more civilized?

Anyhow.

Yeah that would be awesome.

But better then that, a conversion of Mario world to where you did not need an emulator.

You know, Mario world as an EXE file that plays on windows and is just as customizable and used midis for music and wave files for sound effects.

Now that is what someone should try to do.

Wow. A newb defending a newb. The whole point is that when you have a question you want to ask, you look around before asking it. If you dont, thats when people will attack you for asking a question that has already been asked.

I'm not exactly defending him, but more or less would like to see people calm down about stuff like this.

But no, people have to lose their tempers and start cursing.

I tend to think that no one here is all that calm.

I could see him getting pissed if he were like just plane out calling him names or trash talking.

On top of all that, i don't think their is anything that answers his question exactly.

Because it was not exactly about editing Mario worlds music, but rather have the emulator pick midis to play in the background for different levels.

And so although it was similar to a "How do you customize the music in Mario world?" type of question, it was quiet different.

He had an idea, and thought he would express it.

He was not being a smart Alec, nor was he cursing or trash talking.

I wish i had the knowledge to do such a thing.

But i do not.

This program idea wouldn't make sense, though! You'd have to make a totally different emulator build just for SMW to check certain level information in RAM and open up a MIDI file and play it.

It entirely misses the point of emulation when you go and make this feature that only works with one rom on one emulator and takes more work than it would to just put the music directly into the game.

There almost certainly are executable versions of Mario World in existance. But they have nothing to do with rom hacking the game.

True.

But it still sounds pretty good to me though.

And if i could do it, i would.

I am trying to figure out why you are getting so worked up over it though.

It boggles the mind.

So let us all calm down, and take a deep breath.

And just say "To each his own, i suppose".

No need to go nuts.

People have ideas, and you should respect that.

And before anyone says anything, i know that i am not a mod, nor am i trying to be one.

Just trying to understand why he is so upset over what others think may be a good idea.

Ya know?

OK.

Man, i can not wait until SST comes out.

I am not sure what it will be capable of, but i already have some music from another game from the snes, that i would like to use in my upcoming hack.

I wonder.
Will it also have the ability to import music from....like....sayyyyy a nes game, or will it be a snes music only tool?

The anticipation is driving me crazy go nuts.
