I finally got the Winamp Disk Plugin Writer, but now I'm a little lost on how to get the lame.dll (or whatever that allows me to write files to mp3 format)

I downloaded lame through the site (in the readme for the Writer), but all I want is lame.dll, unlesss I have to install it or something?

I just want to be able to use Wimap to convert files to mp3. Hopefully that made some sense, and somebody can help me here.

I don't have Winamp installed here (I'm not at home) so this is just a guess. Try checking if there's a "plugin" folder in the Winamp directory, and put the .dll in there. Then go to the Plugins section of the Preferences window in Winamp, and it should appear in that list.

If that doesn't work, you can try foobar2000, which is what I've used quite a bit for converting music to various formats. I've only done a .wav to .mp3 conversion in regards to mp3s though, so hopefully you can get Winamp working, and not have to worry about installing another program

i'm guessing lame.dll is the mp3 encoder in DLL format. If so, you need to find a binary version of lame.dll. What you downloaded from lame's website is the source to the dll--which is useless if you don't have a compiler.

But anyways, here is a site with binaries of lame. They have lame_enc.dll but maybe you can rename that to lame.dll and that should do the trick:
Rarewares

if that doesn' work for you, then do a search for "lame dll binary" and you should get something

Download lame
Upzip it
Go into the plugin config
check for LAME path or something
go where the dll is
play with the options

this is all a guess, a I use foobar2000, but I think it something like that.
