Just go to the front page of TSN's website and you'll figure it allllll out. Deal looks pretty solid but the owners clearly "won" the battle. Now all that's left is ratification, which will happen next week. Owners shouldn't be a problem, players might voice their displeasure but should still get the 50% + 1 needed to pass it. Then you have the NEWS CONFERENCE OF THE YEAR on July 21, which will consist of... - Announcing the new deal. - Officially analyzing the CBA. - Possible unveiling of a new NHL logo/slogan. - Details on the marketing campaign for next season. - Details of new rule changes on the ice. - Conducting the draft lottery, or the Sidney Crosby sweepstakes, whatever you wish to call it. ...Wow. |

10 months.... anyways, looking forward to hockey next season although, I wonder if the frontrunners in 2003-2004 will still be front runners in 2004-2005 Sidney Crosby? who is he? |

If my memory serves, he is supposed to be the "next Wayne Gretkzy." But hockey is so far off the map, I don't even remember how the game is played anymore. Watch out! Here come the Wild! Muahahahahhahaha! .....301 days *sigh* One thing that strikes me as interesting is that pretty much 90% of the players are free agents (or at least that's what it was made out to be) for this season. It's more like "those who hit the cap first win the cup..." |

Well, you have this thing called a puck and... *drones on and on* Teams are gonna look TOTALLY different, neo. Two reasons... - Lots of teams thought there might be a lockout, so at least half of the players in the league are free agents (restricted and unrestricted). - Some players are going to have to be bought out of their contracts, and if you're bought out you CANNOT turn around and re-sign with the same team. Boston and Vancouver only have a handful of guys each. |

Hallelujah! Anyhow, here's the format of the Sidney Crosby Sweepstakes: Each team begins with three balls. For every playoff appearance in the last three years or No. 1 overall pick over the last four years, a team loses one ball. But each team will still be guaranteed to have one ball in the lottery. The first round will go with teams picking 1 through 30, with the 30th team picking 31st and the draft order 'snaking' back and forth in a seven round draft. And the odds of landing Crosby: Balls Team 3 Buffalo 3 Columbus 3 NY Rangers 3 Pittsburgh 2 Anaheim 2 Atlanta 2 Calgary 2 Carolina 2 Chicago 2 Edmonton 2 Los Angeles 2 Minnesota 2 Nashville 2 Phoenix 1 Boston 1 Colorado 1 Dallas 1 Detroit 1 Florida 1 Montreal 1 New Jersey 1 NY Islanders 1 Ottawa 1 Philadelphia 1 St. Louis 1 San Jose 1 Tampa Bay 1 Toronto 1 Vancouver 1 Washington The sweepstakes is tentatively scheduled to be held on 7/30/05 at the Corel Centre, in Ottawa. |

Originally posted by Luigi-SanI can see who you like anyways, this is a pretty neat draft format...although, i guess it penalizes teams who've made the playoffs at least one in the past three years... although, what team would ever want to be good one year, suck the next two, and then be good again |

The draft's going to be fixed to make Crosby happy. After all, if he had a free choice, he'd want to go to his favorite team... And I'm living in his favorite team's city. |

I really don't care about hockey anymore. They're not going to change ticket prices. They need to pull off some big shit to win back me and my entire family as fans. |

Originally posted by Ziffwell, a handful of teams (10 or so) have said they will be slashing season ticket prices; not sure about the other teams. but if you live in an area that doesn't slash ticket prices then i guess you are out of luck. next season seems to be focused on introducing scoring back into the game so that should help a little bit... |

No if you have just two balls, Leno. ALL the cool kids have three balls. Anyone else think the lockout might've been the best thing to happen to the NHL? People were talking about the league (well, about not talking about it). Now, a chance to clear the dead weight, sack the rules that only serve to slow the game down, show the public they're serious (take a look at the drug policy). Tickets are just the beginning. |

Yeah, when Jeremy Roenick was on SportsCenter raising hell (or just speaking.)
One thing that grabs my attention and absolutely must pass: NO TIES. It's like watching the 2002 MLB All Star game every other day it seems like....... Some very extreme things will need to happen to get fans to come back, the NHL can't afford to screw this up. |

Montreal's not slashing ticket prices. Montreal drew 21,000 fans a game last season. They'll draw 21,000 fans a game this season. The HUGE hockey markets (Canadian teams, Detroit, Colorado, etc.) won't drop prices that much. It's the smaller teams that are going to be looking to hook new fans. |

They still have to CONFIRM the rule changes next week though. I like most of them but am prepared to puke as soon as shootouts are introduced. Thankfully we'll still have the potential for 3/4OT games in the playoffs. |

Originally posted by neotransotakuOriginally posted by Colleen You see, he'd rather there be ties so 30 out of 80 games turn out exactly like the 2002 MLB All Star Game. If you want the fans to come back, they won't come back if the players have no real reason to win. It'd all be exhibition, practically. I welcome the shootout with open arms, adds a lot of suspense and drama. |
