that is the question. And yes, for every thread I ever make in this forum, I am always intentionally vague.

How about if PM inboxes have the option to never accept PM's from any given user, kind of like how the block layout goes. You can block a layout from every displaying, you should be able to not accept any PM's from a given user.

I know of at least two people who wouldn't hesitate to use this function, but I do want to hear some input on the matter.

Was suggested a while back.

Don't really see why not. System messages won't be able to be blocked.

DO IT! FUCKING DO IT! I DON'T CARE IF NO ONE KNOWS HOW! HOLY SHIT! I NEED THIS! I know that Colleen would make sure to block me, too. But first thing I would do is block YOU, Leno!

STRONGLY AGREE.

I know I could've used this feature several times.

Just make it so you can't ignore PMs from anyone with a powerlevel higher than yours.

That would be too easy. >(

Plus, if someone went nuts on the PMing binge, this is a way to shut them up before they get banned.

Sounds like a great idea. I can't think of anyone that I would block personally, but I can see how it'd be helpful to others.
Would the person sending the PM's be aware that they're blocked, or would it all be private?

Since an AcmlmBoard's PM system doesn't act like that in a phpBB-one, I doubt the sender will notice any difference.

In phpBBs PMs are stored in your outgoing messages folder until the recipient comes online to "receive" it, so there can be tracked if a message was deliviered or not. So, send a message to someone who comes not online for a long time - it will be still in your phpBB outgoing messages folder.

I think what might be good in this case: A "blocked users" sub-folder. This folder must not be deletable and the board checks then, when a message is sent, if the user is on the blacklist of the recipient. If it matches, the message is directly sent into that folder - also the flag "You have x new messages" should be set to off. Unless there arrive multiple messages at the same time from friends AND an ignored user, then this might cause problems, if the flag is removed but along with the normal PMs you won't notice you got any PMs.

Yeah, again (like I say every time this idea comes up) I think this is a great idea.

Hell, even recently there were a few issues with some users that were sending out female members multiple [retarded] PM's. So, wouldn't it have been nice if they could have simply blocked that user from being able to send them PM's?

I say, if we can block layouts, why not PM's from users we don't want to recieve PM's from?

Good idea, just hopefully it'll actually be considered by the higher-ups.

As long as we're on the subject, maybe certain users could be not allowed to PM anyone below a certain powerlevel? Like a temp ban for PMs. (And automatically applied to banned users. ) If someone PM spams, the recipients can block them, but that won't stop them from doing it to other people.

wouldn't that require shifting the powerlevels by one to allow people to still come to the board? power level of -1 is already a ban...

Last I checked, banned people can still PM.

well, it would be a great Idea, but in the way of PM'ing, my only suggestion would be to add another variable along the line of a PMpowerlevel, that determined if you could PM, could not PM, or could not be blocked.

Yeah, that would be a nice little addition too. Just as long as you make sure that every one can PM every one else no matter what PM lv they are.

yea, just not have th ePM go through if the person has blocked them, but instead go to a blocked PM's folder.

Oh, there's going to be a Block Folder? I thought that all blocked PM's would be deleted. I guess they could be deleted after a certain length of time spent in the blocked box, and of course there would be a delete option.

1. blocked PMs get sent to a special box for them
2. blocked PMs are marked as new, but don't trigger the new PM notification
3. blocked PMs can still be moved / deleted, but aren't auto-deleted or any other bullshit

people who PM spam will be banned
people who PM spam when banned will be IP-banned

there.
