Check this out. Find an old crappy TV (best with an antenna), put it on channel 3, turn your DS on, hold it to the antenna and tune around a bit (you need a fine-tuning control of some sort). With a bit of work you can see the DS's image on the TV! It's not like a high-quality image you could actually play with or anything (it usually jumps and moves around) but it's there. (Colour, I'm not too sure of, because I used a black and white TV. ) It works best with GBA games, because otherwise you get both images mashed together. It's neat, but I wonder why it happens? GBAs don't do this...

This has been known for quite a while. It's a very interesting thing, but the chances are that it's simply just a coincidence. DS does supposedly have a TVOUTCNT, though, which could very well be for transmitting to TV. It's an interesting concept for gaming; maybe a game could be coded to take advantage of this, pasting the gameplay screen on the TV? Once I get a WIFI car and thus can use wifime, I'll probably look into this, but I'm not expecting much.

Oh, I so have to try this.

If done right, it could be like GBP, except without accidentally hitting Z (Which brings up the menu) instead of R and getting fried for it!

Obviously the DS transmits WiFi more than we originally thought

Yeah, I know it's old but I haven't seen it posted here. It's certainly interesting. If the DS does have some unused TV Out pin, I wonder if it could be of any use? Maybe something could attatch to it and provide a proper sync signal so we can actually get a usable picture; would be nice for GBA games and DS games that mostly only use the top screen. (Or if nothing else, I wonder if software can force the DS screens to update at a different refresh rate? Tweaking that a bit might get an image that a TV can pick up properly.)

Anyone tried it with a colour TV?

you guys are stupid. if the DS didnt have an a/v output thing how do you think people who review these games make gameplay videos. and before you saying they have a special DS to do it, no they dont.

Because we know you're the expert on these kinds of things. How did they do it with GBA games before GB Player, then?

HH, they did it this way:

It's a so called WideBoy Advance, like a GB Player, only for N64 and only for GBA games. (It also exists a GBC one)

Uh-huh...Wideboy, but, that was not for magazine and website reviewers. No, only developers mostly got to use that. You can sort of find them for sale, but rarely..I did buy one a year ago on a Japanese auction site. But like I said, when the time was that the magazine reviewers made that stuff, they would not have the access of it. This is a very awesome find, HH. I might play with this a little bit later...^^

::Edit:: Havoks: Nintendo once told the process that they use to make the screenshots and things. I do not know if it is how other companies do, and I sort of forgot the process. But it did invole a special type of camera and not having the games need an "AV" thing..

Q: In each review of a PSP game, when the game clips are being shown, we can always see the fingers of you guys playing, while the DS, as I understand, can be connected to the CPU and the video can be direct...ermm...well, I hope you understood what I mean. Doesn't the PSP have that feature and do you think it ever will?

Alexander Nichiporchik
A corn field in Latvia

A: As of right now, there's no way for us to get direct-feed footage of PSP games, as the system itself has no "video out" function. The DS doesn't either, but we have a magical device, made by the gods themselves, that lets us get video from DS games. Right now, no such device is available to us for the PSP. Believe me when I say that there's little more we'd like right now than to have a solution to this, so don't worry, we're going to keep on it. Thanks for writing, and it's good to know they have DSL hookups in Latvian cornfields now. The next time someone tries to tell me broadband penetration is relatively small, I'll be sure to let them know about you and your cornfield hookup. -- A.N.

Same device that allows a person to play with the DS and not have the stylus or person's hand blocking the view of the touch screen when making the videos. adurr

You're talking about an entirely different device, similar to GB Player, not an adaptor.

Also I want a Wideboy.

yah, thats probably why there are videos of people holding a DS, playing with said ds and having the contents of that ds show on a seperate screen. makes it look like something that connects to that ds to me! doesnt matter if its a completely seperate device thats 10x10 feet, it still makes the DS output video (the DS, not the device). the gameboy player is different, ie you plug the game into the player and you use your gamecube to play the games (if thats what youre talking about).

Intelligent Systems(Of Paper Mario and Fire Emblem fame) makes things like the IS-NITRO-CAPTURE and IS-NITRO-VIDEO for this kinda thing.

Here's a link to the japanese site. If you look around you can see they are even accepting new people!

They are? Alright, now I just need to find their manager... and learn Japanese.... and graduate... and get there.

IS's stuff generally isn't available to the public, though.

Intelligent Systems are also known for Mario Kart Advance and Advance Wars.

And do not forget Panepon (Tetris Attack).

I think it has the best official fanpage a game can get.
Panepon Official Homepage

With lots of Fanarts and the Soundtrack to download as MP3s.

I saw an original Wideboy at the electronics kiosk that used to be at the mall many years ago.

I played Flipull on it. Even has the Game Boy border and everything. Tres chic.
