I need you to be serious on this one and no jokes please! I have upgraded my PC to where it can't go any further My PC is a Gateway Essential 433Mhz celeron socket 370 256 MB RAM 54X epo CD-ROM 48X LG CD-RW 10 gig HD (will replace with 40 gig in 3 months) Radeon 7000 PCI card 32 bit USB 1.1 Is it possible that I can upgrade my celeron processor up to at least 700 Mhz ? if so would someone please tell me how to do it ?: I recently saw a gateway motherboard on ebay that could fit into my case and I could easily upgrade my system plus get a higher processer that could reach up to 800 Mhz. would this be a better choice or the processor ? also I can't get that because I don't have a credit card check at the moment usually my cousin orders it for me so I'll have to look else where for it. |

I'm sure it's possible with some modification, but not really worth it. Anything less than ~1.5ghz is way slow by today's standards. I'd just buy a new motherboard. (Also depending how much you download 40GB might not be enough space either, and 256MB RAM is a bit on the low side.)

All I need is my PC to go above pass its regular limit. I had to give up my DVD burner and put it in my mom's dell because my PC couldn't handle the task of ripping DVD's and burning them. plus if I even tried to burn a DVD on my old machine my computer would act like this: you want to burn a DVD jackass ? you can go ahead and sit right there for about 20 hours and lets see how far your patience can hold out! anway when I talked to memorex last year they said in order for my PC to burn DVD's correctly and at a good speed I would need at least 700Mhz processor or higher. also I think a 40 gig hard drive is enough for me right now, I know how to manage a hard drive and delete stuff when I need to. In my opinion I say it would be worth it to upgrade. Oh and Hyper hacker, anything above 600 Mhz speed is a decent PC I see other new computers at 1Ghz and higher screw up alot worser than older machines! |

putting in a faster CPU only works if the motherboard officially supports it--otherwise, bad things may happen if it can't handle the speed. i see the only option left is to overclock your celery--.err celeron--but I'm not sure of how you could do that...possibly by increasing the voltage or something. Otherwise--i'd buy a new machine the speed of 1GHz computers aren't the problem--it is how you are using them... |

Plus, the newer-gen Celerons sucked ass. An 800MHz Celeron has twice the clock speed of a 400, yes, but it's probably only 25% faster in real-world computing. Give up on the old machine. Save up and buy a new one. Don't waste money buying older technology, you'll regret it in a few months. |

Seriously, a decent custom build computer doesn't cost that much anyway (less than the damage you could do now. I already saw a computer go boom once in my life, last summer in my room). I know that a few people here could help you set up a good computer.

If you look at my "Something's gone very wrong" thread... I have an 800mhz Celeron and as you can see my computer's not running so well! I'm not really sure what the problem is (I suspect the motherboard) but I wouldn't be surprised if it did turn out to be the CPU. Keep that in mind. ![]() Also, like Yiffy Kitten mentioned, Celerons are way slow. Clock speed alone doesn't determine how fast it will run. |

The hard drive doesn't have a whole lot to do with it (though when you get a faster hard drive you will really notice a difference). It's mostly about CPU usage, how many instructions it can do in a second. |
