Or he meant the early FF magic system... I'll use FF1 as an example. It's similar to a D&D magic system - a magic user can only cast x spells from a certain level at a time before he has to recharge using a House or staying at the Inn. Plus the spells have to be bought, but it's not like D&D in where you can only memorize a set number of spells. I think. That was confusing. Basically... Black Mage can cast 3 Level 1 spells. (3/3) He casts LIT on a monster. Now he's down to 2/3. He can cast LIT two more times, FIRE two times... No limit to what spells he can cast, but you only have a few uses. |

Umm...actually, i though they were using the magic system in the newer FF games. Like the one in FFX. I know how those systems works, Colleen and Chickenlump. |

Originally posted by Colleen You can get 3 spells per level per character. There are 4 black and 4 white spells per level. This makes for some semi-hard choises, especcially (okay, only) when using the Red Mage (although the level 5 white spells are all good. While the level 4 ones all suck. Who needs a spell that cures Mute, a condition only 3 monsters in the entire game can cause? And two of them have Mute at the end of their spell list, so unless the battle lasts for more than 10 rounds (which it doesn't), those enemies won't ever cast that spell. Oh yeah,a nd Mute is cured after battle anyway. Plus, if you're muted, you can't cast the Amut spell, so it's even more worthless. As for FF2, it's the good old "you can learn 16 different spells, choose wisely"-system. Most FF2 spells are crap, though. Get Cure, Life, Heal, Exit, and some attack spell (Fire is good), as well as Ice for those damned turtles and their Uber-defense, and you're set. (or just get Ice, and screw Fire) Originally posted by Colleen You spoiled yankees and your cheap ass games, you. $57 is cheap. In Norway, at least. |

Actually, I could see a two-Red Mage system working - one with only White Magic, one with Black Magic. Plus you get decent attacking power out of the deal, but the only drawback is you get no super-powerful spells. Everyone here knows about the NES translation. |

Originally posted by Colleen Well.. the so-called "super-powerful" spells are pretty crappy, and you need to level up way too much before you can use them anyway. There's really no need for 2 Red Mages anyway. Most Black Magic suck anyway, so a single Red Mage could manage to squeeze most useful spells into his spell list. And you can bring another Fighter. Thus, 3 Fighters and one Red Mage is the best possible party. |

Hey, you never know when you'd need an extra Red Mage in your party for a timely healing spell... I always liked NUKE myself. Probably because I'd use it in the final dungeon. |

Originally posted by Colleen You don't. Besides, Knights can use basic white magic as well. Originally posted by Colleen Unless you overlevel, you only have about one shot of that magic. Not worth dragging that worthless BM through all the other dungeons for. |

I would definately think about buying the first two, but they're not on my most wanted list. Final Fantasy VI would the gem in the GBA's crown if Square had any sense. And when the PSP is released, there's a whole new potential for RPGs on the move... FFVII in my pocket? I'd put my GBA and 16bit Final Fantasy in one pocket and PSP with 32bit version in the other It should be possible to get FFVII to run on the PSP, in theory. It's fast enough, and the media it uses is optical, so the data would fit onto one or two discs. |

The games look like a start for more FFs to come to the GBA, hopefully. And if they did release FFVI on the GBA, they'd make tons of money. It's stupid not to, actually. They probably are (secretly). | |||

I have a confession to make: I love Red Mages. I was so tempted to make a RM in FFXI. Next time I play 1 or Origins, I'm gonna try a party of all Red Mages. Honestly, would that even come close to working? |
