Anyone who takes a word written in the bible, especially the old testament and books like Revalations, needs to have their head examined. This is why cults like "Heaven's Gate" spawn up - because someone takes something written in the bible too literally. It's also why Muslim extremists exist. They're both the same. Incapable of realizing the bible was written entirely by humans and is, at best, a 4th-hand (if not 100th-hand) account of what may or may not have happened.

Seconded, although I wouldn't have expressed that as drastically.
Anybody who has grown up with a religious fanatic grandmother (quote: "90% of the world's organized criminality is run by jews") like me will understand my point.

You know, it's not very nice to ridicule someone else's beliefs. You guys should be banned or something.

I'm not christian, but as history shows us, protestants have pwnz0red.

And, nobody can prove the existance of a good, nor can they prove that he doesn't exist. So the argument is like saying "there's a planet exactly the same as earth five billion light years away". You can't prove that it's wrong, but you certainly can't prove that it's right.

They threw the whole "faith" thing in so it created a paradox, so they couldn't be wrong.

edit;

Dogan: read the thread. Then read it again. Then remember that religion is like any other topic and doesn't deserve any more sensetivity. Although nice postcount++.

Plus, Christianity has been around for 2000 years and coincidentally, that's when the best written historical records started to be kept.

The bible claims that Jesus was jewish, and died around 35 AD. He didn't start Christianity, Paul and Peter sort of did (or so it claims). So it's more like 1950 years.

There is a difference between bashing people for a more or less reasonable/decent amount of it and bashing people for just being absurd fanatics. "ono adult material is evil. jews are evil. children being taught evolutional theory instead of creationism/"intelligent design" at school is evil. the end is nigh. all the sinners shall suffer" people, in my opinion, are absurd, unreasonable fanatics.

If a scientologist made a post about how Hubbard will come in a few years and annihilate the non-scientologists in here, we all would be bashing him as well, and probably you wouldn't protest either. Why should it be different about Christianity? Just because it is more popular? jeez.

Seriously, just go on with your life and let what happens happen.

I agree, some people waste their own lives worrying about things they cannot change or predict. I can tell this is going to be a meaningless pissing contest over who can sound most political. We've already had enough threads like this.

Actually, that's where you are wrong, nub. Because of that one comment I made, you assumed that I am a hardcore Christian who is ignorant and pro-scientology.

First off, I'm not a Christian, I'm a Muslim. And secondly, you couldn't be less ignorant than I am.(Certainly Ziff can attest to that) So stop making assumptions and think before you speak. That's what's wrong with the world. Don't judge people before you get to know them.

You entirely misunderstood my point.
I did not assume you were christian, or even pro-scientology. Read carefully please... what I said was you wouldn't protest against people bashing a scientologist saying things of similar absurdity.
What I was saying is, there are certain limits to religious tolerance. If someone says things that are just stupid, his belief isn't an excuse for that. Makes me think of some poor person who posted about his cat drawing satan and bursting in flames or something a while ago.

Even if something is stupid(which is an opinion, by the way), someone doesn't need to point it out. Let them fix their own mistakes.(if there are any) We do not need to point them out. Correcting one's own mistakes are a way of improving oneself. Ridiculing them isn't going to help. And if they don't accept that they are wrong, let them cling to "false" ideas. It shouldn't change your beliefs. I think that the collective thoughts of the KKK are ridiculous but I'm not going to call them out. Why is it more important for people to denounce others than to respect their ideas even if you don't believe in them? As a Muslim, I respect Buddhism's determination and self sacrifice, Christianity's and Judaism's ideals and prophets(seeing how they are very similar to Islam), Hinduism's flexibility, Shinto's love of nature, etc. Muslims(implying True Muslims) believe that regardless of belief, sex, race, sexuality, as long as you are a good hearted person, you will go to Heaven. That is why I have always kept an open mind for as long as I can remember. It should be more important for people to discover what they truly believe than to find differences and falsities considered by you.

And just for the record, I would protest against that bashing. Bashing of any sort is animalistic and inhuman. That is why everyone does it. They aren't in control of their mind but let their instinct and emotions take over.

They won't recognize the absurdity of their statements, which they most like developed because there was nobody to criticise whatever authorities they had (which were saying them things of the same kind). And without proper bashing, these people might even convince others of their absurd beliefs. I know bashing others is not nice... but it is human. Human as in "typical for humans". Also, there is a group obligation we all are tempted to follow.

If it's human, then how come we don't have to do it? Will is human. Acting on impulse is not.

And three billion years is "surely" more believable.

I'm sure by then we'll have blown Earth up by mistake.

This threads is starting to get kind of nuts. Starting theological debates is just asking drama.

Be that as it may I think we should accept that our minds are dead set on our perceptions/beleifs and that no amount of debating will make a lick of difference. Agree to disagree, in other words. Things like this end up being a moot point, otherwise, where no one is willing to compromise.

No!

...

But seriously, this thread has just gotten ridiculous. It should probably be moved to the Debate forum, or at least closed.

Thankyou! And I also agree with Xeo as well. You wanna be the next Jon Stewart, be my guest and don't do it here.
