I've been thinking for a while about this decided to might as well post it.

Shy post mode. (Or unoffical text mode)
Basicly a text-only drop down menu (or button that would add the hidden text.) For people who want to post something but doesn't want it to apart of their regular post because of lack of information on their end or just a way to state your just "thinking out loud." Basicly clicking the drop-down/button would be like clicking a disclamer saying like "Don't know how reliable this is, please don't flame" or something to that effect.

Phone-call post.
Basicly, if a user was banned for a less serious reason (less then 2 weeks or whatever) the person could be allowed to make before his ban was lifted though a special belayed post. The banned user would enter the post (without any editing capacity provided after submission to pervent abuse) and a mod (or admin) with control of the forum would judge if the submitted post and decide if it was worthing of being posted.

These are just two ideas I've been thinking about. I don't actully know if they are good ideas.

I don't really think either of those things are necessary...if you are unsure of the content of your post, you could put a disclaimer in the post itself (or just not post it). And I don't think a banned member should be allowed one more post after being banned, a lot of them would just use it to make another spam post, flame, etc. I believe that banned users are allowed to use the private messaging system (I know they were in the past, I've been PM'ed by a banned user before), so they could PM a staff member if they don't know why they're banned or whatever.

Not sure the second one is possible with the current banning system, anyway.

Besides, since forum bans are possible now, if someone was enough of an ass/lamer/moron to get banned completely, they shouldn't be posting anyway - with certain very rare exceptions, such as providing some help in Hardware/Software, which can be handled entirely through PMs, and which has been done before.

I like the 1st method, but the 2nd one is a no-go for me. Since banned users can send PMs, they can go ask/whine to the admin/mod about why they were banned. Tamarin Calanis said it best.

The second one is not to ask why you got banned. It's for when you really need to post something in a thread that's important to you for whatever reason so. A mod is then suppose to dedide if it's okay for posting.

So for exaples:
"Oh that is so cool!" Would not be okay.
"Using missles in that stage is not wise as the enemies are not powerful enough to warrent such force." Could be okay.
"If you ..., you can increase your computer's speed." Would be okay.

Of course what would be okay would be solely up to the mods. This is why I could it a phone-call post. You can call from jail to inform someone about your dog's feeding time but you can't to yell at your ex.

well, that's already possible, Ten. Just PM a mod with the post. It's been done before. I don't think it'd happen often enough to warrant putting the work into a new feature, really, when the same thing can be done easily with something that already exists.

I believe when the board was coded there was a reason for not letting banned users post. And that is the main reason bans occur today. So I dont think this should be implemented at all.

1. "I can't gaurentee the validity of this, but..." prefixing the part of the post that would be affected by your idea would work much better and be far less annoying.

2. I call it "IMing another member (or PMing) with the text you want posted". I did it many times.
