Ah, the geekyness finally caught onto me (holy crap). A lot has changed over my vacation including my attitude. I'm into buying Newtype magazine and whatnot and learned some stuff from my friend, Robbie. She is the one who sold us our cat and her parent breed different animals.

Anyway, I bought this nifty tracing table along with some thin paper, 48 prismacolor markers (+120 pencils), and several black markers. A total of $900 worth of equipment. I decided to try some things out, traced over my rough sketches and scanned things in photoshop. My first actual anime picture made from scratch!

Tada!

Something about that just doesn't look good. I just don't know what, but something's bugging me about that...

And her right (our left) arm is almost completely invisible. May I suggest perhaps some thin outlining around the bushes, possibly a thicker outline around the outer edge of the character?

Edit: That's what it is. The bushes don't contrast enough against the character -- a small outline around them would possibly help that [as stated] or possibly darkened a little.

But I have some problems telling where the bushes end and the background starts, especially around the mid-right area.

Looks fairly good, but she's a little out of porportion and well, there's just something that doesn't fit. I can't quite put my finger on it, however.

Maybe she needs a bow on the back? I could try the outline thing and ee how it turns out. Btw, you wouldn't believe how many times I had tried to make her as proportional as possible. A lot of head and neck adjustments have been made while I made this.

The picture is pretty small, but it looks pretty good.

Waist is definitely too thin, but that all takes practice. Nose is pretty undefined on the face, at that face angle it should be more prominent.

Coloring was done in Adobe Photoshop, right? It looks nice, very smooth.

PS. How do you find the Prismacolors are to work with? I've been thinking about getting either some Prismacolors or some Copic markers sometime to try out.

Well, to start, the pencils can give a pretty rich pigment and can be smoothed with a transparent blending pencil. I found the markers especially useful because they don't overlap when you color in something and with proper blending, you can achieve some clean and smooth gradations. But like all good things, they're a pain if they were ever to run out.

It's worth buying nonetheless.

for your first anime that's bloody awesome. But like others have said there's just something wrong with it... i think something to do with the head.
