How is weight loss dangerous? Unless you go about the 'regular' way of getting rid of it like excersicing (I fail spelling), eating well and stuff I can't see how that's a dangerous issue.

Very few people go about weight loss the right way because it's time consuming and has slow results. Because of all the other unhealthy waya people try to lose weight, it's become unsafe. You can't starve your body from nutrients it needs in order to lose weight. Sure, it will work (and fast), but it's very dangerous.
In today's society, people don't make time for exercise and cooking a healthy dinner instead of McD's.

With the "bringing it on yourself" I have to agree. Keeping in mind a few special exceptions, an obese person made themself that way by living an unhealthy lifestyle. What's more, a majority of Americans don't even care that they are obese, because they're not alone. And that's depressing.

Not to mention disgusting. I honestly put these type of people who don't care about their obesity into the 'low self-esteem' class. I don't know why.

It does suck. We as americans often can justifie many evils with others that do that same.
What I mean is what Dei* said above. They feel less in a bad position because there are so many others like them.

Wow, went off topic on my own topic... lol...?

I stand by my opinion that Obesity is not a disease, threatining? YES! underestimated? YES! disease??? hell no.

See, that's another thing. Doctors DO consider it a "disease" and many consider it an "epidemic".

I already gave it. In my eyes a disease is a disorder of the human body (not abrubt physical damage like being set on fire) that basiclly isn't caused by that human being. Saying that somebody who diets bad has a disease is like saying somebody who smokes weed has a disease.

So you wouldn't say lung cancer or cirrhosis of the liver (in most cases) are diseases?

Edit: Not trying to be argumentative, just seeing your point of view.

A disease and a disorder are different things. Being set on fire doesn't fall under either one of those..
People who have addictions could also be considered having a disease.. it really depends on how you look at it. I'd have to say drug addiction is a disease just as much as a food addiction is.

Obesity is the worst thing to come to the Americas since we got a surplus of Food. People need to stop being greedy fat asses and learn what is good for them not what tastes good. I personally would call it a disease becuase it's so wide spread and such a problem. I mean yeah there is a definition of it and some people can't help but get it. Some people eat becuase they don't know when hunger stops and when joy begins. I dispise obese people and all of the millions of dollars they made us waste while looking for a cure for obesity.

Maybe I am just too superficial with people. Or maybe I am talking out of spite.

Don't fret over what others classify as disease or lifestyle choice. I personally believe that alcoholism is not a disease, but there are armies of scientists and psychiatrists who would think me an utter fool for disagreeing with them. Just believe what you want.

To me, obesity is definately a disorder. But first, obesity is not the same as being overweight. Overweight- having a BMI of 25 or more. Obese- having a BMI of 30 or more. Some people argue that genetics plays a major factor, but it doesn't. Analogy- Obesity is a gun. Genetics loads the gun, but how you eat and excersize pulls the trigger. Obesity is not a normal state to be in, and can be very damaging to joints, ligaments, and tendons (although I remember reading somewhere that it may increase bone mass as compensation for the excess weight). Also, a lot of blood goes to supply those fat cells, so it increases the load on the heart and lungs.

I know this sounds really bad, but it just bothers me that someone the age of 15 could weigh 300 pounds. It's just not normal.

If it's a disease, then could I call in sick for work?
"Sorry boss, I can't come in to work today. I'm fat." Honestly.

I would call obesity a physical condition, since it is, but a disease? Not so much. Most of the time, being obese is the person's own fault. If obesity is a disease, then diet and excersice are the cure, and these so called diet pills are the placebos.

So just say no:
