So I restart my computer since it's running slow again and I figure it could use a break. Hello! That appears. Uh oh. So, unsuprisingly, all of my new settings (like my only-two-programs-run startup list) are lost, and that new card I bought needs to reinstall. Shit. So it reinstalls, I get the WEP key again and fire 'er up. Put in the key, seems to be working... ...open IE, go to a random site, nothing. Just an instant error. Try and go to 192.168.0.1 (our router), nothing. Same "Cannot find server" error. Pulse gives me a "Cannot resolve server" error. How useful. So I try Trillian. Aside from an instant error when trying to connect (like "Invalid operation blah blah"), it just gives me a few boxes saying the connection failed and an error message: "Cannot create socket (uselessnumber)" Damn it. So I do some searching on Google. Come up with WSOCK32.DLL.. copy it to the floppy, copy it to /SYSTEM/ (the -32/ version is mysetiously empty) and go ahead and restart. Now I'm getting errors from Pulse again ("oops" "Error in IP address module" or something very similar) and absoloutely nothing works. It supposedly backed up my old system files (the Registry Checker), does anyone know how to restore them? Whatever it did just fucked over my cmoputer bad. (and no, I can't reinstall the OS or the drivers for the wireless PCMCIA card) |

Pulse is known for stupid dialouges like that. And no, tha'ts not what it really said. in the mean time, I'm going to go try and figure out if it has a "RESTORE OLD CONFIGURATION AND NEVER DO THIS AGAIN" option. Edit: The string I get in Trillian is this: 23:04'42''| *** Error creating socket. Code 10106. (edited by X-Fairy on 06-26-05 02:12 AM) |

I don't think \System32 should ever be empty. If it's running, though, then that's probably not the problem. Maybe you have the wrong version of wsock32.dll? If you have any sort of restore/install CDs you should be able to get it from there. |

Well, I'm assuming this is either Windows 98 or Me. AFAIK, Registry Checker only exists on those two. Thus the answer to the empty system32 directory, Win 9x had it, but it's almost always empty. But . . . I have no answers to your problem. |
