I have been a fundemental independent baptist my entire life. Until recently, I never questioned my beliefs. When I started questioning them, I came to one conclusion: Brainwashing. You get the leader of a Mormon Church, Catholic Church, Baptist Church, Methodist Church, and a Cowboy Church, they all say the same thing. "We are right, the others are wrong"

Where is there proof? People believe in God and stuff because they had a death in the family or something and they want comfort and support. You go to a church and hear the same thing over and over, it gets ingrained in your mind, then you believe it.

It's a conflict because I have friends at church, my family has had losses (that if religion was a total lie, are just dead and gone for ever and not in heaven), and there are so many people at my church that admire me for what I have done. The only reason I go to church anymore is out of obligation... I dont want to feel this way, but I do. It just makes perfect sense...

Comments, Suggestions, Encouragement, and Opinions would be greatly appreciated...

There is no agnostic church.

Nothing else in this thread I will bother arguing with.

I was just trying to think of another church for the list....

Anyway, why did you quote me? You usually only quote if you are bringing up a subject from earlier in the thread, or trying to rehash a point. Neither of which makes sense here, seeing as I was the only other post in the thread....

Don't mean to sound condescending though...

Because I am too lazy to wade through senselessness to get to making specific points when I can make a general over view?

Those things you've said are probably the main reasons i don't go to church.. All the churches do the whole brainwashing thing, they think they are right which is fine, but when it comes down to it.. it's what YOU believe in in your soul. I don't even understand all this different church bullshit, i just believe in an afterlife and a god, and a heaven and hell, that's all i need. Hope that made some sense...

Unfortunantly, that isn't all you need. (Depending on what you want from the afterlife.)

I wouldn't go as far as "brainwashing" because I used to go to Church, but I simply disagree with its beliefs. Churches don't brainwash you, but they try to make you believe what they believe, because in their minds, their beliefs are the only right ones (save a few very, very liberal religions, like Judeism, or however it's spelled. They believe that they are right, yes, but they don't force all Jewish people to believe in the religion. They let Jews choose what they believe in).

And, although this has been pointed out already, I can't stress this enough since I saw it in your post: Agnosticism is not an organized religion. We have no church.

Very good. Church is bad. They do brainwash. God doesn't want your money. The catholic church is actually talking about putting stock in the NYSE. That's horrible. Just stick to YOUR beliefs, not some stupid pastors. They can't be based off of what someone else says. They can be taught by someone else. But, always make sure that you follow your heart.

I'm going to disagree with something too: Buddhism. They don't necesarily say that 'we're the only ones'. The fact that they let you celebrate other religeous hollidays is one point.

There is no conflict.

I was an atheist since I was born and really have no use for organized religion. I do agree however that church brainwashes you; I once dated a fundamental Christian who would have been pretty smart if she didn

Okay, I just randomly listed religions. I know how some are more liberal and how agnostics dont have a church. They were just in the list for effect.

And it gave off a worse effect because of it. So, if I were you, to avoid any further complaints, I would edit out certain religions from your initial post.

If I were you, I would give Protestantism a try. Don't give up on God or Religion just because you disagree with what one church says. There are many churches out there, and you are bound to run into a bad one here or there. My best advice would be to follow the Lord faithfully, and don't let the commercialism of some churches sway your faith.

Yea, ya could do what I did, too...

Stop doing what other people tell you to do. Do what your heart tells you, because no matter what, it'll guide you in the right direction. Many people DON'T follow their own hearts, though. They'd rather do what someone else tells them to. A sign of weakness when you can't think for yourself, I say. I just don't like organized religion.

I do believe in some greater being. Does He 'speak' to me? I dunno. If He does it through a handy little thing called my 'conscience,' which I follow everywhere.

I used to go to church when I was little. I went to those religious lesson things they have at school and I read the bible. Although I questioned that all. Right now I believe in part of the wiccan beliefs. Anything you do, it comes back 3x, good or bad. And the whole reincarnation thing sounds nifty. =P I belive in there being two greater beings.. Goddess and God. I mean you know, everyone reckons god is a guy.. a guy cannot possibly 'create' a girl, that's just not right Anyway, anyone can believe whatever they want. It's their choice in life, and no one is really totally right or wrong.. I mean part of the catholic religion, like the commandments are alright. "honour thy father and thy mother" thats all good, as long as they honour you too. I can't explain anytihng good =\

Ultimately all beliefs (Including simple things like "I believe that my friends are real people and not imaginary" and "I believe that I am actually Human and not some alien having a daydream") come down to nothing, because they can't be proven.

I don't want to say "Believe what you want to believe", because then you might believe in something crazy and impractial like "I am actually a vampire." In the same breath, I don't want to say "Have beliefs A, B, and C," because I they can't be proven.

This one's up to you, kiddo.
