I'm purely curious to know if this forum has plans for a "Report Post" feature anytime in the future, so that posts one discerns as inapropriate, inflammatory, trolling, spam or otherwise may be anonymously reported for the moderators to review, rather than having to directly PM a mod every time or waste space by posting a, "Cut it out." post on the thread.

Purely curious, since it seems a staple feature of most other message boards.

It's not a bad idea, I just hope it isn't something that's likely to be abused. Obviously it'll be reviewed by staff and stuff, but there will always be somebody who decides that it's funny to click the Report Post button for kicks.

I use similar features on deviantART frequently (report Policy Violation) and think that it's a great tool for regular users who like to help out

It does seem to be a good feature but like Tarale said above, there will always be someone who abuses it and thinks its funny to make hoax reports. But that can be fixed easily by setting a rule regarding that.

Well, I think the way things are run here, the mods are expected to see stuff going on before some member reports it. If they dont see it, then usually a regular member just PMs the mod for that forum, but they usually get to it before we think they do.

You know, perhaps to make it easier this could be integrated with the Private Messenge feature? That is, you click the 'Report Post' button, and it opens up the 'Write PM' window, with the local mod's (or whatever) name, and a form letter.
Though we might need the ability to send PMs to more than one person at once... (Or can we do that already?)

If it were implemented, personally I'd rather see it be kinda like the Policy Violations tool on deviantART.

You click a button to "Report Policy Violation". It brings up a Form, where you pick what kind of violation it is from a drop down menu (ie, spam; art theft; wrong category (forum) etc) allows you to put in a URL if neccessary (used in the case of art theft) and leave a short comment if you choose.

It then gets submitted for the Policy Violations Staff to review.

I'm guessing here I'd probably like to see users click on a button to "Report Post" and it brings up a drop down menu and comment thing, you pick and submit, and it goes to some kind of Tracker tool for ALL staff to review.

Course, deviantART's feature is anonymous, but I'd rather see the same kind of feature here not be; at least unless we're sure that it won't be abused.

I remember agreeing with someone's argument that people are likely to report posts because their feelings got hurt by it, or something similar.

If this feature is ever included, then there really has to be strict guidelines right on the report page that CLEARLY defines what's reportable and what isn't.

Imajin: I disagree, I think a reported post ought to be send to all of staff, and not just the local mods of that specific forum. It's possible that the local mods aren't online at the time, but full mods and admins are. It'd just seem more convenient to lead it all to one place, even if some staff members who read it won't be involved.

That, and also as well as report the post, report the user who clicked the link. That way, if someone does it for kicks, there can be kickbacks.

If you wanted to be lazy, maybe it could just send a 'form letter' PM to System, or make a post in some special thread in a staff forum.

If I ever felt the need to report a post to a moderator, I'd just copy the link to the post itself (it's the link titled Link) and PM it to the moderator of that forum with a short explanation of what my problem with the post is. If a full mod was on at the time, or an admin, then I'd send it to whoever would get the problem solved quickest. Worked well enough for me.

I'm not saying that the report function would be a bad idea, but rather that it's not something that's really needed. Although, I do like HyperHacker's second idea. It'd probably require making a seperate staff forum for thread reports, though, so the other staff forums don't get cluttered.

That's true, but if you look at it, it could be a useful feature for those of us who don't PM links to moderators about a certain post. Then, double take on this, usually things get sorted quickly anyway, it's not like the mods are lazy.

No, but the users are. If you're not willing to spend the few seconds it takes to copy the link, paste it into a PM, and add a little description as to why it's a violation, then don't. If you need a quick link, then you wouldn't had done it in the first place.

Plus, there'd be a hell of a lot of hurt feelings reports, and those get filtered out fast through the old fashioned method of sending a PM.

Depends on how they got their feelings hurt thought. I seen blatant flames on this board before but people was like "OMG FUNNY".

Then, on the other hand there is people who just can't understand sarcasm. :/

There needn't be a new thread for each report. Just a post in one thread. Instead of replying there staff could reply via PM.

Staff reply in PM to a thread? I didn't understand this.

Hmm, I forgot I made this thread until a few minutes ago. I see nice points for and against this system. They're all solvable, I think, but as I said, I'm not suggesting a system so much as inquiring about it. Also, keep this in mind; this forum may not need a Report Post feature, but other people use their own Acmlmboards, too, and they may want or even need such a feature. I think it'd be better if the feature came from the source, rather than making it's appearance as a modification to the system by an amateur Acmlmboard programmer. I like Tarale's idea the most out of all the suggestions thus far. I think, from my limited experiences at these forums so far, that most of the board members are mature enough that Report Post would not be abused to such a point that it would need to be removed, or that it would drive the mods crazy. And those few individuals who do abuse the feature could simply be repremanded in the same way that those who post spam or flames are. Take a look at GameFAQs' message boards, one of the most troll and spam-laden message boards in the history of the internet. They've seemed to manage a Report Post feature just finely, so I think a smaller, more concentrated community of far more mature individuals such as we have here at Acmlm's Board could handle it smoothly.

I'm going to do a full implementation of this without piggybacking it on any existing board system. Expect this in 1.a4.

The only problem I have against this is that it will make everyone effectively a mod. Obviously, there's going to be abuse. I don't want to go through 100 reports only to see that 1 is actually worth it.
