The strangest thing: Toolbars on most of my programs have become chinese
and instead of a forward slash i get a weird symbol. Its like a Y with two lines across the middle

i think this has something to do with the language bar. I'm running Windows XP.

Left-click on the blue square in the top right corner of your task bar and set it back to "English".
If there is no icon there, go to Control Panel -> Regional Settings (or similar, I'm running a German Windows XP) and set it back to your language.

already tried that.

i looked into the glitch and i found out its not the yen symbol but something called
"reverse solidous"

it looks like a yen symbol but wider.

another odd thing is that this only happens in SOME programs such as msn and firefox. in note pad and word its all fine.
EDIT: also i looked at my language bar and i have only english no japanese.

I have English and Japanese on mine but I got it stuck in Chinese a few times. If you only use one language you should just disable it entirely, it's a really glitchy piece of crap. Otherwise I suggest you right-click the bar and go to Settings, this usually fixes various problems it randomly creates. (Also maybe a screenshot would help. )

||bass, you can't very well expect someone with no experience in Chinese or Japanese to tell the two apart.

Ahh, this situation reminds me of an old song...

"I'm turning Japenese, oh yes I'm turning Japenese, I really think so!"

Seriously, its a real song. Look it up man.

But I would advise to go into your control panel and poke around.

HyperHacker, you might want to disable the shortcuts for quick switch between languages.
It's in the Regional Settings inside tha Control Panel (alternatively click on the blue square in you tray and go to "Settings" -> Keyboard -> Keyboard shortcuts and disable both upper boxes there. Then you won't accidently switch languages when using combinations like ALT + other kay or CTRL and vice cersa.

This is a crappy attempt of translation, since I'm running a German Win XP as stated above

No, those don't really have anything to do with any problems. It's just stupid things like icons not showing up, or the bar refusing to stay in a specific place on the screen. Functionally it's fine most of the time.
