Are there plans/possibilities for a threaded view in the future? Just wondering.

I don't know, a lot of people like it. It would be nice to be able to choose between flat and threaded.

No offense or anything, but I can't stand threaded view either...and it isn't really necessary. If you want to reply to a particular post in the thread, just quote it.

In general, only the most basic board systems use threaded view...all the major ones (phpBB, Invision, vBulletin, etc.) are flat view.

UBB is by no means basic, and it has both.

the main reason for lack of threaded view in message boards is difficulty in programming. it is much easier to show it as flat view.

The reason why Banedon listed those boards as examples of using flat view wasn't becuase they took the easy way out, but because they are very popular. There's a reason.

Yech, those are gross.

One thing I've pondered though is an alternate layout. Instead of the username and such being to the left it'd be above the post, thus giving the post 100% width. I've seen some really ugly implementations of this in VB, I bet it could look pretty cool if done right.

'scuse me? It's plain easy to show it in threaded view. The first thing I ever did in PHP was a little forum with threaded view.

I'm not saying it's incredibly hard, I'm saying in comparison to flat mode it's much more difficult.

Flat mode: Order by time posted, or id (both work) Limit # posts per page

With threaded mode you have to write your own finctions for organizing the threads, and cannot use a query to put them into order. You have to order them yourself.

Ehhh, no you dont. But flat view is so much easier to follow. If I visit a site with threaded view I just wont register... I dont have time to go through every thread. Plus it looks ugly.

Oh, I'm not saying that the board should switch. A lot of boards give the user the option of flat or threaded. I'm not even really asking for the feature at all, I'm just asking if there were any plans for it in the future.

here is a board that allows you to switch between the two:
http://www.elazulspad.net/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=6914&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

just as an example.

You can't do it here. We don't have an individual subject for each post like PHPBB or WWWBoard. It just wouldn't look good.
