Yeah, another overasked question, but this time it's not the HARDEST but the EASIEST. I apologize if this was already posted... I'll trash it if so.

Note that I didn't include SML3 because it's technically a Wario Land game, and I'm not counting those

I would also say Donkey Kong, but unlike Smallhacker, I'm going to provide a reason - that is, it was only three or four levels long (depending on the version) and none of them were very difficult. Even at the most basic level, if you were patient, you pretty much had a free ticket to winning.

I voted SMW. In any level you can just grab a feather and fly all over it. That made difficult levels a lot easier.

OK...who voted SMB2J?

The easiest...this is tough...I'll probably go with SMB3, because I've played it so much, I practically have the whole game memorized. I still struggle with SMW and Yoshi's Island, and even the original SMB, but I could probably beat SMB3 with my eyes closed and my arms tied behind my back.

I'll say: Donkey Kong

Altought it was an arcade game, it's definitely easier than SMW.

Yes, you could spam the feather in SMW (which is one of the only two real reasons why it's not better than SMB3 in my opinion)... but did you tried to beat the game fair and square?

Not so easy anymore? I tought so...

...and if this STILL doesn't convaince you... then go to the Special World and be amazed by levels worthy of SMB2J! I still think Outrageous and Tubular are yet to be beaten in terms of frustration.

Even Mario Sunshine's totally evil boss battles (CURSE YOU STINGRAY!) and retro stages cannot outdo SMW's Special World.

As such, SMW doesn't win the award.

Donkey Kong on another hand... once you get used to the whole "jump and run" technique to get around (in short, once you know how to play the game), beating the game isn't a challenge.

The patterns are predictable, the enemies are dumb and slow, not that many obstacles, e.t.c.

But that doesn't keep Donkey Kong from being really fun!

Even with the last boss he wouldn't do a thing to Luigi.

Actually, Donkey Kong has an ending... but it's like Super Mario Brothers, first of the name.

Once you finish the game, you restart... exept everything gets harder... and since this is an arcade game, the difficulty just keeps on becoming higher until it becomes truly impossible.

I actually remember getting myself stuck and in a point where it was impossible to beat the game, for I was trapped... but that was MUCH easlier in my life.

There are certain games that shouldn't be on this list. SMB2j is one of them.

Other people have convinced me of how easy DK is. I am jumping on that bandwagon.

Featherspam: I only did it after already clearing the level. Game beaten, every level cleared, without featherspam.

Special World: Yeah, that's included. Tubular and Outrageous are probably the only mildly difficult levels in SMW.

I have, however, considered hanging whoever designed Tubular. But, becuase it's not a required level to get to the final boss, it falls under the 'optional' section, just like FFV's Shinryuu and FFT's Elidibs - they aren't required to clear the game, and therefore do not affect the game's overall difficulty. The difficulty is something you force on yourself.

Yeah, I HATE Tubular. It's the level I always dread when I'm going for all 96 goals. The inflated Mario is so tough to maneuver and moves very slowly, you need to know which "?" blocks to hit or you're dead, and one hit from an enemy means you have to start over. I especially hate the baseball-throwing guys...it's extremely hard to move up or down the screen passing through a line of baseballs without getting hit, because Mario moves so darn slowly.

I'm going to say SMW. Basically because the controls were so fluid, it was extremely easy to control Mario while jumping, and running and everything, so I'd almost never die.

And there were a few levels where you could easily get like, 20+ lives.

TRIVIA TIME: The character in Donkey Kong came to be known as the Mario we know today, but then his name was Jump Man. So I wouldnt count Donkey Kong, but meh.

I picked SMW, although I do have to agree that Tubular was mildly difficult.

MORE TRIVIA TIME: The reason they changed from Jumpman to Mario is because Jumpman turned out to already have been copyrighted a few years back. Also he was originally a carpenter, not a plumber.

Also Tubular isn't hard. Here, I've uploaded a quick .zmv file of me beating it (and getting all the dragon coins). Graar.
