Once you send a PM, during the time that the PM has not been read, add an option to allow the sender to edit/delete the message.

Suppose you forgot to mention something in the original message, or you later found the message to be irrelevant. Those are two things that make such a feature useful.

the only bad thing about users being able to delete the PM's they send... is

someone could harass / spam / etc....

and we would have no way to track / prove that....

Yeah so if they wanted to be smart and decide what they did was wrong, then they still could have a chance. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Checkboxes would be very nice, and a possible "savebox" to where you could check and move certain PM's that you might fight important or something.

Basically phpBB currently has the best PM system from what I've seen.

That's why he said it would only apply to UNREAD PM's. So, if I were to spam/harass you, and you read it, then I couldn't go back and delete it.

Another way might be to dispatch a copy of each sent PM to a local storage area (another partition on the server etc.), thus removing the privacy issue. Dunno know how much space this would take up with, let's say one million PMs later
On the other hand public private messages can be read anyway by administrators ... and for proving actions like mass-links with advertisement and other mad stuff okay

Well... PMs can be permanently saved somewhere, but that's kind of pointless.

Also, let's not allow banned users to delete/edit PMs. Also, if at all possible, when an admin reads a PM to someone else, and it contains harrassment, the admin can 'lock' the PM, preventing editing/deletion. This way, admins can present it to the user, and the user can't do anything to the PM.

I should test out the phpBB PM system. I never used it.

well, even if he did harass someone...i dont think it would matter anymore if they changed what they said...i mean you can only harass someone if someone else heard or seen it

actually, I think, barring Ace's cpanel is really screwed up and not like any other cpanel, he could go to the cpanel and go to the php scripts and look for the victim's codes.... or the assaulter's codes... and then be able to get their account... OR... since that would be violating privacy, if the victim is telling the truth, they could give the admins their account pass and then they can check the PM box and see it for themselves.

You completely lost me on the first part ... but with the last one... Admins can already see your PMs.

And I think FreeDOS's idea is great, and ErkDog's post is irrevelant.

I guess Erk didnt notice that FreeDOS was talking about unread PMs... For unread PMs it's a good idea, because if someone deletes they're own spam, they must have decided that it's wrong to PM spam
