I think a feature do dissalow certain users to use HTML in post layouts might be good. Or maybe a personal option to disallow HTML in posts and profiles to be seen be someone. Although the post layout feature is really nice, some people can do evil things with it |

Originally posted by Mike Flash is not ActiveX, I don't know where you heard that. IE. Any non-trused site I visit with flash pops up the ActiveX prompt. If I say no, then I get no flash. Not always bad, since some advertisers are using flash banners. The morons. |

with the netscape flash plugin, I can play flash in mozilla firebird just fine. in fact I have a plugin from somewhere that sets it up so that flash apps do not play automatically, but instead are shown as one big button, that when you click it, plays it. which I would consider equivelant to being able to allow/deny an ActiveX app to run. another spiffy plugin I have for mozilla is called 'adblock'. it doesn't block pop-ups (mozilla itself does that just fine), but it *will* block images/flash/etc from whichever domains you'd like, including with wildcards. so I can go to sites like slashdot, rig it to disallow its ad banners, and booya. plus certain programs (usually ISP drivers) can modify IE to change the titlebar to "{pagename} - Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by {ISP name}". it can't do that to mozilla. and mozilla has tabbed browsing, which is spiffy, and generally doesn't treat you like a n00b if you're not one. in short, using mozilla plus a couple of plugins (such as adblock), it gives you control over what you're experiencing. and I know that when I eventually make the switch to Linux, I'll have the exact same browser available to me. if you like IE more than Mozilla, then you either haven't tried it, or if you have and still like "Microsoft Internet" Explorer better, well, that's your loss AFAIC, and I- along with the numerous other users of mozilla- have little sympathy for you. so, if you like IE better than mozilla... then why? |

i use IE...because (1) this laptop is way to slow to start up mozilla [i really don't want to wait about 30 seconds for a blank page to load up when the same thing can happen in 10] (2) I'm lazy (3) It is going to take too long for me to download mozilla with all that said, I think anyone who uses IE should automatically accept all the bad things that can happen when using it. as a result, they shouldn't complain about such and such happened...it is their fault for using a browser with quite a few short comings. in short, get over it |

hah, well said. and yeah, admittedly mozilla is a bit slow to start up (and also when it's been minimized and I've played a game of Q3 or UT, it's slow to be restored). but once i'ts up and running it's fine unless you have a rather slow computer, and then only doing menu things like managing bookmarks is somewhat slow. besides, I'd rather wait for a competent browser to come up than have an incompetent one come up quickly. I tried Mozilla awhile while back (few years ago), and I didn't like it. I'm trying it again right now, and I still don't much care for it. It doesn't render things very well. Like my old layout, I had an image that was on the right side of my layout, but Mozilla sticks it on the left. It stretches tables out all over the place on my board. The FFT image in my sig is supposed to have an alpha filter to make it look kinda dull, but when the mouse moves over it, it shows as its full, bright self, yet in Mozilla, it's always its full, bright self. It doesn't seem to support the < It doesn't like Cymoro's or HyperHacker's layouts. For Cymoro's, it loaded the images in the corners, but I had to put my mouse over the areas in his layout where images were supposed to be to get them to load. For HyperHacker's, it won't show the BG image at all. I can't customize the toolbar (back, forward, stop, etc). No, I think I'll just stick with IE, the "inferior" browser. Thanks anyway. Oh, and one other thing: What's the point to Netscape? It claims it's based on Mozilla, but they look EXACTLY the same to me. Kinda pointless. Netscape needs to be nixed. |
