Well, I'd been asked to update on the whole Hypnosis thing, and I think I'd like to get my thoughts off my chest about it too, so...

As some of you know, today I went to a hypnotherapy appointment and went under Hypnosis for the first time.

It was interesting, and I was quite (read VERY) nervous. In fact, because I was so nervous and tense, I now have a mildly sore shoulder, it was still tense when I was under hypnosis.

The whole thing is rather strange really. You are awake and conscious the whole time, you can hear what's around you and everything, you just can't react to it like you normally can. He does tell you you're feeling sleepy, but you don't sleep... your eyes just get heavy. I giggled when I found my eyelids getting heavy and then closing... I didn't do it, it just happened.

What the hypnotist does is bring your subconscious mind to the fore, and your subconscious controls things. Your conscious mind is still there, but more as an observer than anything else. It watches (okay, not quite, your eyes are closed) the whole thing but it can't really participate.

It is a really odd sensation sitting there and feeling like you have little or no control over your body.

One of the first things he did was get me to raise my right arm, for example, to show when I had entered the hypnotic state. I didn't move my arm, but it still moved.... well, I didn't CONSCIOUSLY move my arm, but my subconscious did. Same with my left arm later.

The weirdest bit was when I was asked to consciously LOWER my left arm, and I had quite a bit of trouble doing so. It didn't seem to want to respond to the command... I had to FORCE my left arm to lower! Same with my right arm when I was told to do so!

He also got me to imagine my depression as a yellow blob, which I had to push out of my body. I kinda thought that was really weird, but when I "woke" I was told that I had "gotten rid of the depression" doing that and that it "won't come back; unless something makes it come back". Course, he said it like it will, for at least a little while anyways -- he says that further sessions will get rid of it pretty much entirely and I'll do that every time I'm under hypnosis. strangely, I haven't really felt depressed since....

I have no idea how long I was under hypnosis for, time didn't really seem to be too much of a factor, but when I came out, I felt a little like I'd been asleep or something, a little hazy in the head and such. My shoulder was sore too, but then that's probably because when everything else relaxed during the hypnosis, the tension remained in my shoulder.

All in all, a very strange experience, and quite possibly the answer to my prayers. We'll see...

Hmm... well, it seems that there are other ways of hypnotizing other than the way Psycho Kamek does it... interesting...

I can't be hypnotized, but it sounds real interesting. Make sure you keep telling us stuff about this. I still think that it is some trick or something. I do hope that it will work for you.

Wow, it makes you wonder whether there are two people living in your body... Your concious and your subconcious... Makes you wonder whether hypnotism switches the places around...
Being put in the place of my subconcious would be weird and kinda frightening...

What if I had to stay there? Very scary indeed. You're the only person that's ever described it in detail, Taryn.

I hope things go well for you Taryn, things look good right now, though

It IS weird having your arm move without you trying to move it. But I wouldn't call it frightening.

As for there being "two people" or somesuch, it's not really like that.

Your subconscious mind controls 97% of the things you do. An Auto-Pilot of some sorts, your subconscious mind is in charge of things like tying your shoes and driving and all those other things you don't think about when your're doing them. It also holds your thoughts about yourself based around your environment. My environment (the people around me, the way I have been treated by others, etc) has contributed greatly to my subconscious thinking I'm useless, etc, and killing my whole self esteem. 23 years of having no self esteem led to me being depressed.

Because of my environment, the way other people treat me, etc, I could be no other way. With all the things that have happened in my life, and with the way that I have been treated by others for as long as I can remember, I could be... no other way. I am depressed and I have low self esteem because my environment has created me that way.

The work that happens under hypnosis (after the yellow blob thing) was to change the way my suconscious feels about me. At the moment it thinks I'm useless. We (the hypnotist and I) need to work on making my subconscious believe that I am not useless.

You know that all of us don't think like that about you. Your seem like a great person to me, even though I havent known you that long/well. The hypnosis isnt frightening like you said, it's more.. intriguing and interesting. My friend raied my hair off the table and into the air, made my fingers rise up until i couldn't reach any higher. While that was happening, I was just looking at my hand, thinking something along the lines of 'wow, cool!' When i tried to bring it down it kept going higher, just a bit slower.. Then when it was up, she told me that is was 100kg of pure lead. it dropped with a slam against the table, and i couldnt pick it up when she consciously told me to do so.

Hypnosis wouldnt be dangerous though would it? I tried to do it on my friends, and I said all these things about where she was and what was going on, and that she had got injured on her arm. Immediately when i said that she winced in pain, held her arm with her other arm.. when it was over, she felt fine. that was freaky. like when you think you're falling through the chair and you try to hold onto something..

This hypnosis stuff really works. It will work for you.

Well, because I don't have Private Health Insurance and I am not working, I am on disability benefits, , I get it for less than usual.

The first one cost me $80 Australian Dollars.

The subsequent ones cost me $50 Australian Dollars each.

Depression is fun, who would want to get rid of it?

Actually I'm kidding, but I think its friend Melancholy can be fun.
