Whoa, whoa, wait a minute. The board was down? When? It had to have been last night, when I wasn't on the boards because I was reading an actual book about people who tried to calculate the age of the universe. Yes, really. |

Hell! This is my fault? I changed my password now, I hope it won't happen again. I must admit it was really hard to find, but guess what It's Acmlm who settled it the day the board went back operational Anyway, I changed it now, and I'm currently still thinking about another one that I could remember and that is hard enough to find (edited by Acmlm on 04-11-04 05:19 PM) |

...Question... Does anyone actually find all this AOLer-type speak funny? No, seriously. Maybe it was vaguely amusing the first time, but how about the one thousandth billionth time? O.o'' |

I can find it humourus to an extent, in threads where the immitation is meant to be. If the topic is bothersome, then avoid the thread, that's all I can say. Sometimes we all have to goof off a little, and even Acmlm himself partakes in the insanity. But I'm very curious... At what point did it become "AOL-er" speak? I happen to be an AOL user since 1994, and I don't think I've seen anyone talk anywhere near something like that. In fact, a lot of the AOL users I've met seem to be well educated and computer literate people who can have intelligent conversation. I guess it's just a stereotype though. Not that I'm supporting AOL as a service or anything, I sill think (and always will think) Steve Case completely blows. (edited by Kirby PopStar on 04-06-04 02:59 PM) |

Hehe, funny that AOL-speak is even in the FAQ "Use proper grammar and avoid l33t speak and AOL-speak (u, ur, y, in place of words such as you, you're, why). It's a good way to gain respect. " |

Originally posted by MalowWell, if you do this, you'll have no problem: 1) Make it random (totally), like using acmlm's random name generator, set for 7-10 chars 2) Copy it into a text document in your documents folder (IE: Acmlm's Board's Password.txt) 3) Log in and don't log out As long as you don't delete your cookies AND your password file, you won't have a problem, even if you DO, you can easily have your cousin change it for you! |

The only reason that type of speak is related to AOL is that AOL is generally considered 'internet for dummies'. Of course, not *everyone* who uses it is an idiot... | |||

Only a select few? I bet Steve Case's business e-mails look something like this; DEAR EMPLOYE- u r not dong a good job hear at AOL!!1 -( You are NOT suposed to help peple that call the costomer servise lien, UR SUPOSED TO cONfsuse THEM!!!11 U R FIRED! k thx, bye. - Steve Case, Founder and CEO of America Online Inc. I don't know why I like to pick on Steve Case, I think he just gets some sick pleasure out of kicking people offline for no damn reason. That's the sole purpose he started AOL anyway. Back on topic... There's something I don't quite get here... How was this person able to get Malow's password? Lucky guess? |

Maybe Malow's password was stolen for long time ago, when the password wasn't encrypted. Well AOL speak is... I would rather say Overuse-of-abbreviation speak. I think the term AOL speak comes from that people see it on AIM. But "Overuse-of-abbreviation" exists in other IM networks. People who speaks AOL speak aren't idiots, they just don't know better. ~_~ (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 04-06-04 04:01 PM) |
