I think I may get one. PocketNES just rocks in VBA, so I can't wait to see it on the real hardware! Especially with my Game Boy Player. NES on the TV through a GameCube.

Are there many flash cart owners here? I want to ask a few questions about them:

1. First and foremost, where should I buy them? There are so many scams on the Internet that many fill the first page on Google. I know this to be fact from responses at other boards (although I wasn't as interested, so I didn't pay attention to specific replies).
- Are there any real good deals out there that don't involve bad carts?
2. How realible is the flashing hardware?
- Is it easy to set up?
- Does the USB one operate better than Parrell Port, or vice versa?
- Does it flash realibly so I only have to do it once for the most of the time?
3. Are there any particular brands that are more compatible?
- Do they make the carts the right size? (eg: Does it fit the GBA's slot?)
- Should I worry about the type of SRAM? (I plan to use this only for PocketNES)
4. Anything else I should know about?

Any help will be much appreciated.

PocketNES rocks majorly, I highly reccomend you get a flash cart if that's your thing!

I have 3 different Flash Linkers, and a plethora of Flash Carts. (For GBA and GBC) I'm obsessed! In my time accumulating these, I've learned a lot about it. Let me try and help you out.

1. I ordered my best GBA Linker from Success Compu, at http://www.superufo.com and I have no complaints. Good price, good hardware. However, they no longer carry the model of flash cart and linker I purchased, I don't think.

2. It's easy to set up, but for me and lots of other people, (judging by the complaints I saw) the USB flash linkers have some problems, if you decide to actually use the USB function. Mine is a USB/Paralell Port linker so it could use both interchangeably. I decided not to use USB because the damn thing would shut off at random times, usually in the middle of transferring data on the the flash cart. Paralell Port definetly operates better, according to the experience I had. From there on, completely reliable flashing. I can't complain!

3. Visoly brand (formerly BUNG) makes a good quality cart. It fits snug into the GameBoy, almost exactly like an official cartridge. Other brands of Flash Carts sometimes are very difficult to insert into the GBA console because they are slightly too large.

4. For most linkers, you'll need a 9 Volt power supply if you want to use it through the Paralell Port. Keep this in mind-- I had to rush out to Radio Shack and find one last minute so I could use my linker.

1. Try Alcom, it's in switzerland, but they got reasonable Prices for the F2A 256MB model, it's the same place I purchased mine. After 2 Weeks, my SRAM was fucked up, so I told them, and after a little Test, they replaced it. (about a Week). Friendly guy, and allways ask for Pitsch, when you wan't to talk about Games. You even mail them beforehandedly for more information.

2. My F2A USB LInker is a little tricky to operate, has to reinstall the driver after every reboot of Windows 2000 (Aka, [Windows]+[PrintScreen] -> Hardware -> ReInstall drivers and use the allready installed one, works again)
But else, it works fine for my, no problems on USB 1.1 during flashing.
I used it once on a Notebook with Windows XP, at startup, it had to be connected with a Game Boy Advance Turned on. (Dunno why).

3. When only using PocketNES, stay with a F2A 256MB. Enough space for almost all good NES Games, and not so much SRAM Problem. (I mess two much around or I was unlucky).
Also are the F2A not that expensive anymore, and PocketNES was tested for F2A.

Good Luck. It's still tricky to use Flashcards.

Thanks for your input guys.

I might have trouble getting stuff from Alcom for cheap, since I live in Seattle. It was nice that the site is in German, though. Since I know German!
