Ok, I know how these threads can go so I'm going to lay some ground rules about how to go about posting in this one.

For starters, this isn't a debate of any form so don't bother. This should be a learning experience. I myself hope to learn a thing or two from this.

No insulting people's beliefs no matter how dumb they may sound, no trying to disprove anything they say, and no trying to make your religion sound superior to others. That is, be proud about it but at the same time don't make it sound like you're looking down on others.

It should be something like this:

1. What is your religious preference?

2. What exactly are the key points of your religion?

3. What are the differences between your denomination and others? For example, there are some people who don't know the difference between Catholics, Protestants, etc... Also, take Judaism for example. Most of us have a good idea of what the Jewish faith is like but we really don't know how it came to be and the history behind it.

4. Have you always followed this religion since birth? If not, when did you come into your beliefs?

And anything else you would like people to know about your religion. Remember, this isn't a debate, this is a learning experience so try to keep it nice.

I was born a Catholic.

I feel a close connection with Hinduism and intend to convert once I get out of high school. But I am torn between this and Catholicism...As they both have very deep meanings to me.

At the current, I proclaim myself a philosopher. A person in search of the Truth and will not adhere to any sort of other philosophy as long as I find this Truth elusive. No matter what the Sophists preach.

Edit:: I would like to add...How can we play God, when we are God?

1. Agnostic.

2. I live my life and do what I feel is right. If doing what I think is the best thing sends me to hell or such, so be it. I don't regret it.

3. This isn't really applicable, since Agnosticism isn't really an organized religion.

4. No, I was baptized a Catholic. A series of events basically led me to question my faith in God. I'm honestly not really sure what these events were, as the actual details of them were so trivial as to be unimportant. This led me to study a bit of philosophy and psychology in an attempt to find an answer. I stopped studying halfway when I realised that the only answer that these things were going to give me is that there is no good answer. I think it's been the best for me in the long run.

I don't necessarily think that no God exists. I simply choose to act regardless of the way any religion would like me to behave.

I was born Methodist. My mother insists that I still am, and that I need to do some official thing to change it. My mom is way too into it. I stopped being christian when I was about 12. No offence to anyone, but I thought that God was way too arrogant and I needed a gentler diety to believe in.

Personally I go by a mix of Taoism and Paganism. I believe that there are the four Elementals (Fire, Water etc) and four Divinites. Destiny is my Goddess, she's the one that weaves our souls from Shadow and Light, and when we die, our souls go to Her and are rewoven. Time is a God, who is the carrier of souls. I found all this out by asking, believe it or not. I just went outside and let the wind tell me.

I'll answer even though Atheism isn't a religion per se.

1 and 2. Atheism: KNOWING, not believing, that there's not a god.

3. The closest would be agnostic, I guess, who say that they don't believe there's a god but will accept one if there is. To me this looks like vague Christianity with a safety net.

4. Occasionally I've believed in God, but I've found many compelling arguments against god. I've also found that most arguments made through religion would not make the slightest sense be it in any other area. The idea of religion is that we needed someone to explain what everything is about and who made it. So, Man created God. Now science can explain a lot of those things, but we still keep God around to explain the things we haven't found out yet, and in a giant twist of irony, a lot of that is explaining how it's possible God would exist.

I too am aetheist but um...

1. religion defined by me

2. any values other religions have that I agree with, plus there is a deity (or deities) but man has no right to say who/what they are

3. um...is there really any fundamental difference between any religion? i see that if you look at a pure fundamental standpoint, all religions are the same

4. i too have occassionally believe there is a god...but I only do that because most people associate super being with god...but as I said earlier, i believe there are deity (or deities) but man has no right to describe them...

1. I was born Catholic. Census says I still am.

2. Cannibalism of the savior, apparently.

3. Bigger hats.

4. I've been an atheist for as long as I can remember. Even as a 6 year old I never believed in God, and probably got into juvenile little arguments with kids who did.

I don't believe in God. I just don't see or feel It in the universe. Some people are colorblind and look at a sunset and don't see red. I look at the world and don't see God at work. I don't think I have an especially rigid rationalist view - "if you can't prove it it ain't there" or anything like that... I just don't believe and have never had any reason to.

I also believe, more generally, that everyone is right. And that everyone is wrong.

How bloody Zen of me.

I was born Catholic; if I could've chosen I wouldn't have.

I hate religion; religion majorly causes war. And don't say that's not true; how many wars has humanity been through because of religious conflicts? How many bombings and assaults have there been lately by religious (mostly Islamitic) extremists?

As for God, that's even bigger bullshit if you ask me; to me it's nothing more than a stupid fairytale made up by some lame, bored drunkard. There is no God; and to all the people who are going to assault me in this thread now with either "He does!" or "Prove he doesn't!", say whatever you want, but until a real God's existance is proven, I won't ever change my mind about God, and religion for that matter.

1. Protostant and somewhat still is, but technically Agnostic. Why are you gonna belive in something that is hard to prove?

2. Be nice to people, and do not kill things. I have been considering being an vegeterian a few times...

3. That's "mine" is more open. It changes with me.

4. Christian Protostant.

That pretty much sums up my beliefs right there, in every way. Except, I didn't do the studying about psychology as much as I did philosophy. I believe that there is some sort of higher being up there, but I'm not going to claim I know what it is, and I'm not gonna pursue trying to find out. That's about it. So, I'm agnostic.

Until the age of twelve I was a Christian Protestant. Until the age of fourteen I was Agnostic. Until the age of seventeen I was an atheist.

And now, I'm an agnostic, with certain buddhistic beliefs. (Reincarnation, Karma, and possibly 'Nirvana'.)

I was born under Jewish parents, but I officially chose to become/stay a Jew a few weeks ago. I call myself a reform Jew; most reforms do believe in God and do some celebrations, but in terms of traditions and strict rules, not all are followed; heck, many are bent or broken if I remember right.

One thing that seems to be confusing to me...some of my beliefs in terms of what happens when you die are not pure Judaism. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I read that in Judaism, you just have this life, and when you die, that's it; body and mind go limp and soul goes wandering.

My personal belief on that...I think the soul goes to either heaven, hell, or a purgatory type place (purgatory being middle-of-the-ground). What do you guys think about the whole dying gig?

Those aren't the Big 6.

Christianity
Buddhism
Judaism
Islam
Hinduism
Sikhism

Wicca is just a made up thing from the 50s. And Celtic isn't widely practised anymore

There is a god, he made everybody.

You're ok, you goto heaven of sorts.

Bad=hell.

It all just adds up though...at least, I think so.

I don't have a particular set of religious beliefs. I am technically Catholic, but there are too many things in the Bible that don't make sense. Instead, I believe that whether a religon's stories are true is irrelevent, as long as they teach valid moral lessons.

I understand why people believe in God. I would just never do that myself, because I don't think there's strong enough evidence to believe that he -could- exist. Seeming as how God is appearently a spiritual being I'm okay with the whole can't make a rock heavy enough for him to lift thing, but that still doesn't convince me that he could exist.
