What is the scariest Silent Hill game in your opinion?

The reason I'm asking is because I want to try the others. I'm working on Silent Hill 3 right now and I haven't played the first 2.

1 was scary when it first came out, and I was younger.

To this day, I can't play through 2 because it gives me the heebey jeebeys.

#2= scarier than #1, and I haven't played #3... therefore, I shall vote for #2

I've played all three. I beat 3, got to the very last part of 2 and didn't beat it (I'd seen a friend do it, and he got the ending I would have received, so I didn't particularly care about accomplishing the task for myself), and never managed to finish the first level in 1. I saw the same friend play through a bunch of 1, which gave me no incentive to pick the game back up again. Out of these games, 1 sawed down my nerves the most and is therefore the scariest to me.

First off, the radio in the original Silent Hill emits a prickly whining noise that is significantly more grating than the radio sounds in the other two games (which I'm pretty sure are the same). Its enemies are creepier and generally more threatening, too. Outside, you constantly have to avoid things that run at you, pounce on you, and attack you from the air, In various areas of the game, you'll come across freaky foes such as moaning demon children and possessed doctors and nurses, (Granted, the Slurpers in 3 are actually much more of a pain in the ass than the children, but they're not as disturbing to be around.) There is one area of the game in which you can get attacked from above, you can't really see, and get this - the radio doesn't work. I could barely stand to watch my friend play that, let alone go through it myself. Enemies respawn no matter what difficulty level you pick (in 2 and 3, most of the indoor enemies stay dead on Beginner and Easy mode). Furthermore, you occasionally run into harmless ghosts that set off your radio and then disappear, which is always good for a scare. There aren't any similar creatures in the other two games.

The first Silent Hill does have some features that can lessen the scariness, though. You get an effective melee weapon (a pipe) near the beginning of the game, and if you're playing on Easy, ammo and health are plentiful. I killed mostly everything I came across with my handgun, and I had full ammo pretty early in the game. Some people feel that survival horror games aren't as frightening if you have plenty of supplies. In my case, the atmosphere of the game set the mood quite nicely, and all the supplies gave me enough courage to actually play (until I freaked, put it down, and got lazy about playing again, that is ).

Oh god don't mention the sewers.

But yes, I've played 1 and part of 2 [never went back to friends house to finish, and the apartment complex wasn't all that scary just a few parts...]

... and you couldn't get past the first level? Are you talking the school or the main overworld where you have to get the crap to go to the school?

EDIT: Hell, if you don't believe me sample "My Heaven" on Ace's local server. If you'd like to hear anything else [I'll give you the scariest tracks I have off of it] I will. [Xkeepernan on AIM]

And yes, the soundtrack can freak you out just by listening

Main sewer strategy - CHAAAAAAAINSAW!

But those demon kids creeped me the fuck out. I hated the dogs as well.

X - I got to the very end of the alternate school and saved right before the boss. Although I had a ton of supplies and knew exactly how to kill said boss, I never worked up the nerve to pick the game back up again.

The 2nd and 3rd are pretty much just as scary as one another, but I actually liked the story for 2 more so I went with that one.

Before SH1, I never knew games could be scary (Resident Evil didn't even do it). The first time I walked down in those sewers, and that... that... thing came down from the cieling and attacked me, it was the first time I was ever actually scared. (HINT: I don't scare easy).

SH1 was definatly the scariest.

I have played Silent Hill 2 and 3. 2 is the scariest in my opinion and it is by far the best. I really liked that game. 3 is good but not as good or as scary as Silent Hill 2. I played a demo of the first one and it is good but I would love to play the full version. So, I think Silent Hill 2 is the scariest.

The Omega Bump.

Skorpion, this thread is over one year old, and hasn't been replied to up until you did, and ... it's a big bump.

Don't bring back dead topics unless you feel it's absolutely needed, or have a lot of content to contribute to the thread. I'm going to go ahead and close this, unless someone thinks otherwise.
