Yep. The verdicts are coming in now, and so far, on 8 counts, he is not guilty. Thoughts? Did you think it would end up like this? (edited by Anya, Jedi Exile on 06-13-05 09:14 AM) |

I'm following it back and forth between forums...better tell them then. I really couldn't care, to be honest. |

Am I gulity of doing that?! Oh dear, let me run from the paint! Hehe. But no paint for Jackson, which is what I thought anyway, so I am 2-0 on major cases that I have followed in my lifetime. Go me. |

Funny, both of them were formerly-rich and famous black men (if you're talking about OJ, Anya). OJ was convicted in civil court though, Michael got off in Civil court with no criminal court charges ever placed. (edited by Yiffy Kitten on 06-13-05 09:21 AM) |

Oh, there will be talks after this trail as well. You know that not everyone agrees with the verdict (since we all don't agree anyway) and I doubt talks about this are far from over.

The thing is, there's been talks about him for a decade or so now...that's not really stopping him much it seems. :\ I dunno, I stopped caring after the first joke about it when I was in grade school. |

I think he's weird, without a doubt. But I don't think he molested a kid. The family of the "Victim" wanted money. They've done it before, and did it again this time. They didn't care about justice, just greenbacks. (edited by Yiffy Kitten on 06-13-05 09:28 AM) |

I think the whole thing was a scam by the people to get money from a once poor black boy who is now a rich white women. But hey if there was no evidence then there wasn't any and now it is double jeparody.

No, it's not double jeopardy. This was a CIVIL, not criminal court, there were NO criminal charges associated with this. IF he was found guilty, they would have taken it to criminal court. This was if the jury found him guilty, not beyond a "reasonable doubt". Reasonable doubt is for criminal cases. Because he was found innocent in a civil court, one can assume another jury would NEVER find him guilty beyond ANY "reasonable doubt" in a criminal case. |

What I ment was the same people couldn't try him again because that would be double jeoparody

And Yiffy Kitten was explaining that yes, he can be taken to criminal court on these charges, though I'm sure to no avail.

Originally posted by Legaultdouble jeopardy only applies to criminal cases--civil courses do not have to follow the same principle. however, because of monteary resources, people typically do not try again. |

most of the protections in the bill of rights apply only to criminal cases--it is left up to the states to see whether those rights you have in civil court as well as other protections the state offers that you do not get at the federal level anyways, now that this is done--let's hope jackson disappears from the spotlight... |

Eccentric? Absolutely. Probably the most eccentric high-profile celebrity out there. But I didn't believe the victim's story at all. Michael may love kids, but not in that way. He's not that stupid, otherwise he would have already been locked up years ago; plus they'd have found enough evidence. |

Originally posted by Anya, Jedi ExileI would actually be surprised if he was found guilty. I liked Micheal jackson when he was still human. And black. Reminds me about the inside joke me and my buddy have about calling a clown painting Micheal Jackson... as it did look like a child abuser. |
