Since it's a new board, we needed a new one of these threads.

It encompasses that most beloved form of art known as comic books. X-Men, V for Vendetta. Allan Moore, Frank Millar. Alex Ross, Ashley Wood. Comic books and the like...Talk about it here.

I recently picked up the Swamp Thing collection. Cost me $200 dollars. But it is well worth it. It's Allan Moore's spine chilling work as the writer that totally justifies the cost. It is one of those absolutely orgasmic comics.

Recently in the world of comics, I've been going back trying to get old back issues that contained Legion in them. (That's where I got my name.)

I was able to get X-Men Archives which reprints the old New Mutants issues in which Legion first appeared.

I also got thee actuall first appearances of Legion. Only worth a couple dollars each, but to me they're priceless.

Legion likes Legion.

Ziff likes the biblical Legion.

Speaking of Biblical, I recently borrowed the book 300 by Frank Millar...Sooooo good. It's about the battle of Termopylae. Awesome art (can't remember the artist)...But it was probably one of the coolest books I've read in a while.

Truth: Red, White and Black was pretty groovey, and Marvel fans should pick that up.

I bought Red Star...Not disappointed one bit. Soviet magicians rock.

Most North-American comics (Marvel and the likes) are weird. I especially find it hard to see where the "comical" part comes in. Everyone knows the best comics in the world comes from the France/Benelux-area.

I guess my absolute favorite comic would be Asterix (by Goscinny and Uderzo). It's famous in Europe, and almost unheard of in America.
Tintin (by Herge) is also a great comic.

I suggest y'all check up on those.

I've recently gotten into comics last month when I one up at my local Waldenbooks. From then on, I've picked up and tried various other books that I can find. So far, I've decided to collect a few issues, while the others I leave in the dust after an arc or a couple of issues for various reasons. So far I have decided to collect:

Spectacular Spider-man
Teen Titans
The Flash
Marvel Knights: Captain America
Green Arrow
and Bone (which already coming to an end this April)

Note: These are susceptible to change if some of them fall drastically to my criteria or if the constant change of artists and writers just bugs me a bit too much. (My near incident with Human Torch: The Locust Project series.)

I've also had my fair share of comic strips and foreign comics that please my eye. In fact, my utmost love for them (and cartoons ^^) had prompted me to check out their. My other favorites are:

Calvin and Hobbes
Bloom County
Opus
Asterix
Tintin
Lucky Luck
and many more.

Yeah, that's enough out of me.

I collect a lot of comics.

Since pretty much all norwegian comic magazines print more than one comic, I'll put the names of all the comics in the magzine in paranteses.

Now:

*Spider-Man (Amazing Spider-Man, Peter Parker: Spider-Man, and a few random spidey-stories (like an issue of Tangeled Web (#12, if anyone cared))
*X-Men (all three core X-Men titles)
*Daredevil (Daredevil and Marvel Knights)
*Marvel Universet (Iron Man, Captain America and Black Panther)
*Marvel Superheltene = Marvel Super Heroes (Fantastic Four and Thor)
*Mega Marvel (Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Team-Up, The Ultimates and Hulk)
*Gigant (various DC stuff. Currently printing Batman: Hush, Superman: Birthright and Kingdom Come)
*Larson's Gale verden = The Far Side (The Far Side, Dork, Dilbert, FoxTrot, Get Fuzzy, and a bunch of scandinavian comics you haven't heard of. They'll also start printing Opus in the next issue. Opus rocks.)
*Bizarro (Bizarro, Speed Bump, The Hots, Tom the Dancing Bug, Cowboy Henk, and a lot of scandinavian stuff.)
*Manga Mania (Love Hina, GTO, Blade of the Immortal, Chobits and "Get On Gatapishi-Car!!" (never heard of the last one. It's not any good either))
*Rocky (Rocky (swedish comic. Very good), K Chronicles, Boondocks, various scandinavian stuff)
*Gorilla (Pretty much all scandinavian stuff. Mosty stuff kids aren't allowed to read/watch. However, this isn't America, so this kind of comics are allowed in regular stores. There's a british comic named "Ratbags", which isn't very good, the rest is scandinavian. Mostly norwegian)
*Donald Duck & Co(various Disney stuff. Mostly Donald and Mickey. Fun fact: In Scandinavia, Spider-Man is considered more childish than Disney)

I used to have a whole bunch of Spider-Man comics, but then I just lost track of them over the years. However, I just recently found my old copy of the Spider-Man "Torment" series done by Todd McFarlane. I'm happy. Though I still can't find my compilation book of the first batch of issues, or my copy of the Frank Miller Batman collection...

I also have several Calvin and Hobbes books, and the two chapters of the Naruto manga that is out in America now. I'm also interested in checking out these mangas sometime in the near future:

Trigun
Hellsing
Hunter X Hunter
Dragon Hunter

*super womping bump*

Okay, I hope nobody bashes me for bumping this, but I kinda like this thread.

So since this is a comics discussion, I'll give some topic starters or something.

Who's your favorite penciller?
Who's your favorite writer?
Who's your favorite inker?
Who's your favorite colorer?
Who's your favorite letterer?
What's your favorite comic industry?
What's your favorite comic?

What do you think of all the comic book-based movies coming out?
Are comics art? or are they a lower form of art?
How do you get your comics?
What do you think of ethnicities in comics?
What do you think people should do to make the genre more popular?

Okay, I could come out with a whole tone of these, but I'd like someone to start some sort of debate or discussion on one of these topics, or some of your own, even.

Talk people! *glare*

Yeah, a lot of French comics (from France, Belgium, etc.) are pretty good, and they aren't too rare here either since they don't even need to be translated ... I used to read a lot of those, renting books from the library Reading so many is what inspired me to make my own about 10 years ago, first with characters from those comics then some of my own

Asterix and Tintin were both popular here (although I guess it was even more popular in Europe ), I remember we had the full Tintin collection (22 books) and I read it all ...

Heh, both Tintin and Asterix were big here in the states. The Adventures of Tintin cartoon series had a run on Nickelodian some years back. Was a very good show.

I really don't read super-hero comics. I read comic magazines, which have many comics in them. So i'll just state my favorites:
Arne Anka - Best comic ever, no competition. Swedish. Of crouse
Nemi - Very good Norwegian comic.
Jan Berglin - I think it's only in Sweden. Not sure though. Brilliant anyways.
Opus
Dilbert
Lenore - Really good

Well, that's all I can think of now.

Really, Asterix and Tintin are popular in America? Nobody I talked to had ever heard of it when I was over there.

How 'bout Iznogoud or Lucky Luke? Are they known over there?

Both Asterix and Tintin were most definitely least accepted in America. I was talking about Tintin in class, and people thought I was talking about that stupid dog, RinTinTin, so they all went beserk when I said it was originally a comic.

As for Lucky Luck and Iznogoud, good books, but as their other counterparts, not respected. I do think they have an American-made, Lucky Luck movie though. *ponders*

Personally, I love european comics, pretty different from American ones (which I love as well.) They're also how I got into comics, since my dad had an entire book case of different books. (Not like he read them or anything.

Both of those are printed in the norwegian "Larson's Gale Verden" They also print Dilbert, and they're gonna start print Opus. And they used to print Nemi, until she got her own mag.

Yeah, Larson's Gale verden print a lot of quality comics.

Also, how could I forget about Doonesbury? That comic rocks.

I don't like Doonesbury for the most part.
I heard it used to be hilarious, like they did a safari through Ronald Regan's head.

But now I don't get it for the most part...wait, I never did.
