(Ever notice emulator problems always seem to come in groups, even when they're with several different emulators? )
Well as usual there's a whole lot of little problems I've noticed recently.

1) When using my joystick (a Saitek P880) in ZSnes, it randomly pulls really sharp to the left or right. It's as if I were mashing the stick, but I'm not. (For that matter, it should be ignoring the stick entirely, because I'm using the dpad.) It works fine using the keyboard and in Project 64 (not in FCEUXD, for different reasons). There's no deadzone settings I can find and recalibrating doesn't seem to help. (I've got all updated drivers and such; this problem comes up every time I re-install Windows, but I always managed to fix it somehow before.)

2) FCEUXD doesn't recognize the joystick or d-pad. I can use the buttons, but I can't assign anything to the directional controls. Also, I get no video in windowed mode.

3) Geiger's SNES Debugger crashes when I disassemble a piece of code and then try to disassemble again, which didn't happen when I used it before. (Latest version, whatever it is. )

4) I can't open the Regional And Language Options control panel (intl.cpl). I've tried copying a fresh one from the install CD and done virus/spyware scans but it just closes immediately. (No window appears, but it plays the 'program opened' sound and then the 'program closed' sound right away - yes, I actually use those. ) The same happens if I try to open the Game Controllers panel from the joystick's software, but not if I open it from Control Panel. (neotransotaku mentioned trying it in Safe Mode, which I haven't got around to yet.)

5) Not a problem so much as a question. I found I can use bitmaps as icons, but what's the transparent colour? White (0xFFFFFF) shows up as black for some reason. (Figures they give you a shut down icon but not a reboot/log off/stand by one. )

[edit] 6) My file associations for .n64, .rom and .v64 keep disappearing and no matter how many times I re-add them Windoze still acts like they're not there. After a couple dozen tries I got them to stick for about 8 hours and now they're gone again for no apparent reason.

1.) Might it be that the gamepad simply is broken ?
You could try another gamepad first.
I have noticed that issue using the analogue pad of my Logitech Dual Action. I have to pop it open from time to time, pressing the petitiometers down using a screwdriver, then I apply some WD-40 on the petitiometers - and it works for a few days again
If it is no USB-pad, is there an IRQ conflict shown ?

2.) Same as 1.

3.) Try an older version. Maybe you either ran into a bug or a (maybe ?) requirement like .NET or another thing is not working properly.

4.) Maybe the intl.cpl simply is broken. If you dare try to replace it by using that one from your install CD or not whtihout "fagging" up the conmputer - I can't tell or even recommend

5.) As far as I know, BMP doesn't allow transparency at all
Use a tool like Irfan View to convert them to GIF (one-colour-transparency) or PNG (supports semi-transparency), but I don't know if this works on a PC outside a browser (like Firefox or Opera).

6.) Restart your computer - if your RAM is always full, it may be an error. I had this on Windows ME, where the icons changed, so .smc files had sometimes the IE icon until I rebooted

Yeah, ME did that to me too but that's just files with the wrong icons. In this case the extensions are actually being un-registered.
I don't see how the gamepad could be broken as it's two different problems and works fine in PJ64. It is a USB pad.
I know BMP doesn't support transparency, but many programs fake it by not drawing pixels of a certain colour. XP's title bars do that, for example.
As for intl.cpl, if it were broken restoring it from the CD should have fixed it, since it worked before. How is doing that going to screw anything up?

IIRC, the certain colour that Windows magically uses as transparent is FF00FF. But there are specialised programs out there to make cursors and icons if that doesn't work

IIRC, it uses the color of the pixel in the picture's upper left corner. I'm pretty sure that's how it worked in Win98, at least...
