No. They will be stored in some special files on the disc, but they will be in a sort of compiled format. Most games by Sega (including F-Zero) use a Dream Cast sound format for their music, which I find kind of humorous...SSBM had some really weird as hell streaming sort of thing going on, and as I recall, Paper Mario was MIDI. Theres so many different ways the music could be stored, and even if you were to figure it out, you would still need something that can play back files in that format.

I recall there being some sort of way to do this involving plugging the sound cables in to some device you can buy, and then it records what it recieves as an MP3 file. I realize that's rather vague, but...

Ah yea, composite audio. If you have a card on your pc that can take input from those red, yellow, and white cables most of the stuff hooked up to your TV uses, you just gotta plug the red and white one (or the yellow if you can get a video feed through your pc) in to your 'puter and use the sound capturing program of your choice. I did this with the n64 (though without the proper card, my methods were a bit more crude so to speak) and it worked pretty nicely. Hope that can help some.

Yep. Get an A/V->Stereo adaptor (you plug in the red and white sound cables and the other end is a headphone plug), and run it straight into your sound card. Works for me. Getting them without sound effects can be a huge pain if it's even possible though. A good bet is pausing; some trickery of the lid switch can often delay the music enough that the pause sound doesn't get mixed in. It works with Mario Kart. I forget exactly how it's done, but something along the lines of opening the lid so the game can't play music (it streams the music from the disc) and pausing before the 'close the damn door' message shows up but after one second on the timer (when the music would start). Done right, you'll have the game paused after one second, with no music playing. Close the lid when it yells at you, and because of the extensive, slow disc verifcation process, you'll have a good 8-second gap between the end of the 'pause' sound and the start of the music. Something like that usually works with most games, if you can do it right, but of course they need to play music when they're paused...

...But always look for an Audio/video settings option. I use it to turn off sound effects whenever possible, like in timsplitters Future perfect. Then I just start and arcade map and... yea, pause it without sound. should work for any other game with the needed options, as well. I think MKD had an option for sound volume in it's options menu, because I remember streaming CD audio into the audio feeds with my computer, playing SFX only.

There are music formats for NES (NSF), SNES (SPC), and Genesis (GYM), but a format for Gamecube music will likely be absent for a long time.
