Was debating whether I should post this here or in General Conversation... After thinking I decided here because then I could just take a poll on such a thing... here is the article. Do you think people like this should get 15 years only? I think people who support terrorism should have to serve life in prison. (edited by Randy53215 on 05-24-05 07:04 AM) |

Death. As the article said, the bomb was enough to destroy a whole hotel. What he did was was treason and anyone who commits it should be put to death. |

What is your definition of terrorism? What is support? It is too open a subject and far too open for interpretation. Each case and statement needs to be examined individually. |

I've got to agree with Ziff... you can't just make a blanket statement when terrorism isn't even properly defined by everyone... and the people that we say are involved in terrorism probably consider the US or the "Western World" to be terrorists.... |

I picked life in prison, though I don't think they should be imprisoned at all. I chose life in prison because execution was not an option.

I should be able to run around the streets saying "Al-Qaida rocks!" as much as I please. However, once I do something against the law, I should be put on trial. It really shouldn't be generalized futher. |

The only way to be sure is to kill everyone you think might be a terrorist - then arrest and execute everyone they know. And just to be safe, everyone THEY know as well.

I think another thing people don't understand is, what is a terrorist? I mean, someone who causes terror isn't the greatest explanation. The US does more of that than anyone else.

This man is not sane if he thinks Al Quaeda can get his kids back for him... But yeah he is a traitor, 15 years seems a little unsafe. Life in prison |

What, for supporting terrorist groups? Nothing. Once society starts cracking down on people who have radical political opinions, it's a society that is starting to fall apart. However, for what that man did, attempting to supply them with weapons illegaly, or actually supplying them with weapons illegaly, there should be a very big penalty, something along the lines of 15-20 years sounds suitable. I don't believe in the use of neither the death penalty, nor a lifetime in prison. It sends out a message that people can't be prepared by prisons to be re-instaded as productive members of society. Re-instating people into society is (should be) the primary role of prisons. |

I think there is a difference between rehabilitating someone who has committed a normal crime, such as robbery or drug dealing, and trying to rehabilitating an enemy of the state.

Wait, so supporting something that is anti-American is now a crime? So, say I dislike Canada...So I begin supporting the Integration Association, something that uses the Canadian beauracracy to force us to merge with the U.S. Should I be tried as a terrorist, as an enemy of the state? I'm using methods to bring about change in my nation that many may perceive as negative, I may bring down my nation. Should I be imprisoned or sentenced to death for this? I'm just wondering, though. Because you know, we're on this tangeant. |

I was not talking about political action. Is the political action you speak of legal in your country? You said it utilizes a candian institution, so how illegal could it be... My comment was meant for people who wish to physically harm/maim/kill our citizens or provide physical means to those who wish to. |

There's two things to keep in mind here. 1. He hates this country now and supports Al-Qaida. 2. He was going to give them a bomb that would have killed a tons of people. See number 2? That's the key factor here. 1 is irrelevant. |

Number 1 should always be irrelevant. Supporting the ideals of a group that hates a nation should not be a crime He should be charged solely on the grounds of supplying illegal weapons. |

No, the act of selling them to anyone is the crime. Not WHOM he is selling them to. If he sold them to a quasi-military cult with the explicit aim to bring down the government, the charge would be the same. What if he was selling them to abortion clinic bombers, or internal elements like McVeigh? |
