First, think of a number. It could be anything except infinity.
Then, think of a second number smaller than the first one.

Now, add the two numbers, and remember the answer.
Also, subtract the second number from the first one, and remember the answer too.

Now, add the answers you got, and divide it by 2.
What did you get?

Also, try subtracting the two answers and divide it by 2.

Use it to know your teacher's age or something

(x-y) + (x+y)  = 2x = x
      2          2

(x-y) - (x+y) = -2y = -y
      2          2


That's a pretty simple number trick.
