"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid." hmmmmm..... |

That quote seems a bit too convenient. You got a source? Edit: Scrap that, found a source of my own. Seems that he actually did (edited by The Gamorr Z on 05-22-05 10:45 PM) (edited by The Gamorr Z on 05-22-05 10:47 PM) |

Google the entire text. It seems to be authentic (i.e., there are tons of hits for it). Either that or it's a huge conspiracy to make up quotes.

wow...very surreal well, problem with eisenhower's statement is all three things need to happen.. I know bush is going to mess with social security but I'm not sure about those other two things. If bush is really messing with all three...then eisenhower just predicted the downfall of his own party |

Damn, this proves my theory of Eisenhower being psychic."Their number is negligible and they are stupid." Nice touch (edited by Graviteh on 05-23-05 04:08 AM) |

The U.S. labour laws have already gone to shit. Less than 15% of the workforce is unionized. And more and more bills and pieces of legislation are passed on all three government levels that are making a working man's life even harder in that nation. And farm programs have been gone since the mid-70s. EI is a dangerous thing to tamper with too...

Originally posted by Emperor Ziffatine Well, that's not exactly true. The amount of subsidies that the U.S. government gives to farmers is a joke. It's going to destroy the mexian farming when NAFTA finally kicks in fully and allows the U.S. to step in and take over farming down there. Also, it ahs greatly hindered our ability to speciallize our growing. We haven't made any major advances in farming in the past couple of decades, and that is because we haven't needed to because farmers are getting paid to not need to advance. So I would say that farming is being well supported by the U.S. government and that it is never going away as long as farmers represent such a significant voting block. |

Ummmmm...The US agriculture core is in shambles because of something called droughts in the historic national breadbasket known as the mid-west and constant problems with cattle and pork health. Additionally, the US fish stock have been on the decline. With these factors, in order to keep people in business the subisidies have had to be given out, and over the years the subsidies may have grown, but so has the farmer's reliance. In the face of large companies, the average farmer has had to join up into corporate collectivization which furthermore hurts food production due to the mass production methods which not only offer lower yields, but also lower grade products. Farm programs, where the nation collectivizes the business of farming and has each farm do specialized quotas in order to ensure safe food production, have next to never existed in America. Beyond the southern states where cotton was the specialized product, and other farms were commissioned by the Confederates to produce foodstuffs, it was never a big thing. Additionally, NAFTA is in full force and the majority of the Mexican agribusiness is owned by US and Canadian corporate interests. |

Very simple... very simple. The Federalists died because of political parties forming, for example. They almost completely controlled the government at first. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) Now, while I don't know what thing tantamount to that would repeat that to the Republicans, but I do know that voters don't like people playing with their social security. So if they mess with it enough, they will at least lose some votes. Then there's the possibility that Eisenhower predicted the future and that something will completely make the Republican party dead; not that I can see how that would happen. (I'm trying to be non-biased here) |

Yeah, it's kinda scary, but if you check the Snopes page, while he did (Basically) say this, he specifically mentioned someone from his time period (Bah, you know what I mean) which the Internet circulation conveniently removed. So it's a case of history trying to repeat itself in a bunch of coincidental ways, not a psychic president. |
