A shadow appeared on a marble floor in the center of a huge arena. This time the arena seemed different, more "set in stone" than any other times.

Shadow: "Ok, now, this is going to be a little different as we near the end of the tournament. Each fighter will enter from a side of the arena."

The shadow paused as lights blared up, reveling two entrances.

Shadow: "Now, while the arena is now made of marble,"

The marble floors shined brightly from a recent coat of wax.

Shadow: "this shiny exterior is actually very changalbe. The arena is completely adaptable, so just hope you wind up with a good one."

The shadow disappeared, and the the match was ready for the fighters to start their intros.

OoC The fighters control the arena, I'm just giving an actual back story to it.

Red: "I suppose you're expecting something amazing, Janus?"

The entrance to Sim Battle Arena B, newly rebuilt from the recent NPC attack, lay as host to two figures silhouetted by the blinding special-effects lights situated outside the arena door. Janus nodded, pushing his sunglasses up his nose and running a hand through his hair. He was impressed with Samuel's modifications to the Arena schematics. Who'd have thought someone'd be so helpful with the reconstruction as he?

Janus: "I'm wondering what Melvin will be served."

Red: "Don't you mean "what Melvin will serve?""

Janus: "No. I know what I said."

Janus was very serious in his tone. His, Red, and Green's last battle against the crowd favorite, Team Jarukoth, had left him aching for several days afterwards. It was clear that he'd have to turn up the heat if he was going to succeed in the later rounds of the competition. Creativity was a must, but he needed something special this time... Melvin certainly wasn't just some normal combatant.

"Wish me luck, Evan?"

He looked at Red and raised an eyebrow. Red grinned and clapped him on the back, his superior strength sending Janus stumbling into the arena.

Red: "Do you need it?"

Janus' feet hit the smooth marble, and Sam's modifications were instantly brought to life! There was a bright flash, and the arena turned to rocky, desolate terrain, complete with dark clouds and rolling thunder in the sky. With liquid special effects surging to and fro, one would be hard-pressed to believe it was a centralized simulation. He swung himself to an upright position, and prepared himself. But then, he got an idea.

Janus: "I guess not..."

He closed his eyes. This was going to be extremely risky, and extremely idiotic of him, but it sounded incredible on paper. Suddenly, he called out!

"Alright, Melvins! I know you're out there! Listen to me!"

This was folly. Sheer folly. He was heading for a severe asswhooping. But, Janus figured, if he was going to get crushed, he was at least going to do it in style...

"I want you all to take me on at once, no matter how unbalanced the odds are! I don't know how many of you there are, or how many universes you come from, but I want to take you all on alone! Please, Melvins. I'm asking nicely, I don't see any reason why this is an unreasonable request for a sanctioned battle, if it's ok with both combatants...."

He took Satchel off his back, and a flash of lightning crackled in the sky, striking at his feet and sending rocks everywhere. He had to be ready for anything.

"But whatever your choice may be, I wish you the best!"

(Henceforth, I will refer to all Melvins by codes so I don't have to keep on typing out Present and Universe so damn much.

Pa = Past
P = Present
F = Future
AT = Alternate Timeline
L = Lavos Timeline

T = True Universe
P = Parallel Universe
A = Alternate Universe
S = Split Universe

So the regular Melvin we all know and love would be P-T. The future buffed out Melvin would be P-A. The angsty Melvin would be F-L. And so forth. I'm going to make up a reference list tomorrow.)

Meanwhile, backstage, all manner of hell had broken loose as several Melvins were scrambling around for their equipment. The Present, True Universe Melvin, the one scheduled for this fight, simply stood leaning at the arena entrance, his arms crossed as he leaned up against the side of the door.

Melvin (P-T): Right. They'll be a minute.

One by one, the various incarnations Melvin that had been assembled from all across the fabric of space and time that had been assembled came out and lined up. The Present, True Universe Melvin walked in front of the row and gave a quick roll call, counting off on his fingers as he counted each Melvin.

Melvin: One young Melvin. One buff Melvin. One old Melvin. One emo Melvin. One suit-clad Melvin. One teenage Melvin. One fedora-wearing Melvin.

He pointed at another Melvin on the end of the row.

Melvin: One... robot Melvin?

And lo and behold, Melv-Bot decided to show himself. Gooey's little creation that didn't turn out quite as well as it should have.

Melv-Bot: ... Sup.

Melvin:

Swiveling to the rocky terrain, Melvin (P-T) drew his Gauss Pistol, as he looked out over the dark and foreboding arena.

Melvin (AT-T): You realize, he's probably going to ambush us with all his friends as well.

Melvin (P-T): And together, we still have enough firepower to send a hundred of his color-coded buddies packing.

Melvin (P-T) cleared his throat, and his voice rang out across the arena.

Melvin (P-T): Grey! I accept your challenge! Er, offer! Uh... death wish! Whatever name suits it best!

Janus: "Thanks for your suspicion, but they're not here. Just me alone. And I'm sure as hell not Grey, unfortunately for you, True Melvin from this timeline."

This was going to be a slaughter... Janus knew that Red was waiting on the sidelines still, ready to jump in, but there was no way that was gonna happen, as the firey warrior was surprised when the arena doors slammed shut on his side, leaving Janus alone to face all nine of them. Janus grinned. How many bullets was that?

It was like staring futility in the face and watching it wink at you.

Melvin Chart

Melvin with the Big Collar: F-T
Suit-Wearing Melvin: At-T
Emo Melvin: L-T

Robot Melvin: P-T(R)
Regular Melvin: P-T(N)

Teenage Melvin: Pa-T(T)
Young Melvin: Pa-T(Y)

Buff Melvin: F-S

Fedora-Wearing Melvin: P-A

---

P-T(N) Melvin sweatdropped. Several others facefaulted.

Melvin P-T(N): Oh... Right. Mistaken identity. Sorry. ^^;

Drawing his Gauss Pistol, P-T(N) couldn't help but grin.

Melvin P-T(N): I'll make sure and take you out with some semblance of style, alright?

Another bolt of lightning crashed overhead, and then the entire arena was plunged into darkness. Almost instantly, the entire group of Melvins began moving around, almost as if they knew what each other Melvin was thinking. And they probably weren't too far off from each other, either.

P-T(N), L-T, and F-S quickly began dashing through the rocks towards Janus, as Pa-T(T) mounted his skateboard, which had now been heavily modified for air travel, grabbing onto L-T and pulling him onto the skateboard, before spiraling up into the sky. At-T broke into a run, a golden aura glowing around his body as he, too, leapt into the air, taking flight under what seemed to be his own power. P-A readied several kanji charms between each of his fingers, while F-T picked up a very large rocket launcher. Both P-A and F-T, as well as Pa-T(Y), leapt onto large rocks relatively close to one another to provide long-range support.

P-T(R) danced around in circles, screaming, "I'M AN FBI AGENT! I'M AN FBI AGENT! WHASSUP, BABY! WHASSUP, BABY!"

The next bolt of lightning came and went uneventfully.

Grey: "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!"

Red: "I shit you not, Detective. All nine of them, just like I said. I thought you might want to see this."

Garro: "Ha, he can't stand up against all of that firepower. This'll be hilarious."

Lightning arced furiously through the sky as the nine Melvins ran about the field, surrounding Janus and brandishing guns in a rather menacing way. Up in the spectator's booth, the rest of Team Grey had assembled to watch the conflict. Expressions ran through the group, varying between excitement, impression, and fear. Janus was good, but not THIS good. There had to be a catch.

Kalar: "Maybe he's got some new game beneath his belt?"

Blue: "That is unlikely, Janus is not one to remodel old strategies on a whim."

Red: "And he's got enough firepower as it is, more often than not he just can't use it correctly."

Grey: "Are you all insane? He's gonna get annihilated like this!"

Red: "Relax, Grey. You don't know Janus as well as we do. He'll pull through."

Grey: "And none of you have ever seen Melvin in action, either! I have! You don't fuck with him!"

Blue: "Detective, regardless of whether or not you believe it is possible to take Mr. Melvin on in direct combat, Janus clearly believes it is possible, or he would not have attempted such a foolhardy challenge."

Red: "And whatever Janus believes he can do, he can do. Just watch and learn."

Detective Grey begrudgingly was persuaded to take a seat and watch the fight. More like a massacre, he thought.

------------------------------

User Grey: "Now, let's see here...."

An array of levers and valves stood before User Grey, each with a little tag on them. His office had recently become filled with them, as he began inventing little gadgets to make battles slightly more interesting...

"Which one... Ah, this should do it!"

UGrey took his time flipping switches and levers. Among them were the labels "Plot Device", "Character Analysis", "Soliloquy", and various other literary terms. He carefully pulled on the levers labeled "Monologue", "Plot Device", "Inspiration", and one last one, a small switch with the word "Janus" printed beneath it. He chuckled slightly. With those little disadvantages activated, Janus would be in a bit of a stitch.

-------------------------------

Janus: "You'll see, Melvin. I'll---"

A sudden jolt overtook Janus, and little bits of lightning arced around him, circulating wildly through his body and dying down after several seconds. When he felt he was safe, he tried to talk again...

"I'll.... Uh..... I'll....!"

Something was wrong with his ability to monologue inspirationally, effectively leaving him with no way to talk his way out of a situation. Instantly, he made the connection in his head. User Grey was abusing his power again. Probably trying to teach him some kind of lesson. Janus couldn't let that stop him, but...

"I've got nothing to say..."

He stood there dumbfounded, his hammer in his hands and his head completely devoid of any powerful dialogue. He was surrounded by guns and heavy weaponry, with nothing but his hammer and his wits.

"Guess I'd better learn to improvise pretty fast..."

Trying to regain some semblance of heroism, Janus bolted through the rocks and pulled a pair of black-backed CDs from his bag. He'd need them.

He raised his hammer, and it began to drill wildly as he dove toward the dusty ground and started to drill through it, creating a foxhole to hide in until he could think of a decent plan.

----------------------------

Via his CCT, User Grey watched Janus very carefully....

UGrey: "I'm abusing my power? Sure, Janus. Sure. And you didn't go too far at all in the last fight. And I KNOW you won't go too far in this one. Time to pay the plot piper."

He flopped down into his desk chair, and his hand hovered over another switch. Its label contained only one simple word. "Satchel".

Under the direction of Melvin L-T, Melvin F-T angled his rocket launcher up into the air, pointing it into the sky, and fired. A plume of smoke erupted from the end of his rocket launcher, as a projectile arced into the air, suddenly stopping in midflight, dropping straight towards Janus' foxhole. Pa-T(Y) drew the arms of his pint-sized mecha back, as both oversized hands began spinning around rapidly.

Melvin Pa-T(Y): Turbo Smasher Punch!

Rockets fired at the ends of the mecha's wrists as the fists detatched, plowing into the ground, and burrowing through the dirt, heading directly for Janus under the ground, plowing through any dirt or rock in their way.

A pair of massive explosions were situated around the small hole, A smoking crater was left where Janus' foxhole was, but in the bottom of the crater was another small hole, a deep tunnel!

Janus: "Ha...... YAH!"

Having drilled downward and in a U-shaped loop upward, Janus burst out of the ground behind Pa-T(Y) and brought his hammer above his head, ready to bring it swinging down on the mini-mecha-pilot!

--------------------------

User Grey sat in his chair and smirked. His finger flipped the "Satchel" switch.

UGrey: "Oops...."

--------------------------

A split-second before Janus began his swing, Satchel suddenly plummeted toward the ground, the mightily increased weight bringing Janus with him and leaving the warrior lying on the ground with the heavy duffel-bag at his side.

Janus: "Satchel...."

He got to his feet and prodded the bag, which promptly spoke to him.

Satchel: "Sorry, Janus. Orders from User Grey, can't help ya this time."

Janus: "WHAT?"

Satchel: "According to the orders, you need to learn a lesson of some sort before you can use me again, and you haven't learned it yet. So until then, I'm not allowed to help."

The top of the bag opened, and Satchel spit out a fist-sized, silver-grey emerald.

"I'll give ya this, though. You might need it."

Janus: "This? That's it? What about the Scy--"

Satchel: "Nope! Can't."

Janus: "The Protosh--"

Satchel: "Nah-uh."

Janus: "Grr... Fine."

He threw his head back, and screamed into the sky....

"User Grey! What the hell is this about?"

Time stopped just for an instant, and in that instant User Grey sent a quick shock of information into Janus' head. He'd have to learn a true lesson about power this time. When time restarted, his head sank down, and his heart went with it.

"Oh...."

Melvins were, of course, free to fire at any time.

------------------------

Grey: "Satchel, too?"

Red: "Looks like it. I'm starting to feel sorry for Janus. He's got it tough, this time. And if User Grey really is behind this, we can't do anything to give him his powers back."

Grey was leaning over the window of the arena, terrified out of his wits for his friend. His hands shook, his jaw trembled, and his heart pumped with the agonizing speed of one who knew the fate of someone he cared about...

As Janus was brought down to the ground by Satchel's weight, a large, double-ended wrench spinning like a fifty-pound frisbee spiraled over his head, angling up into the air and into the distance. The moment he was done arguing with his satchel, he found himself being pelted with flaming kanji charms from Melvin P-A, as well as most likely being caught in the stomach by a giant metal fist originating from Pa-T(Y)'s mecha.

Assuming he was, the giant piston in the suit's arm would retract, then slam in, sending some seriously charged air into Janus' stomach - more than enough to rip most men apart. But seeing as how he was most likely hardier than that, it would probably just send him flying back into a rock.

And if he was not, a very large and very explosive missile from F-T's rocket launcher also would have been able to send him into said large rock. If he got hit by Pa-T(Y)'s fist, then the rocket's slight homing capabilities would have engaged, following him all the way into the huge granite formation.

The fist caught him hard in the stomach, and the compressed air blew the burning warrior backward into said rock, which exploded into several large, jagged pieces, followed instantly by its demise into many more extremely small pieces on contact with F-T's rocket launcher. With that amount of firepower, Janus was hurtin' for certain....

---------------------------

Grey: "I can't stand this any more! We have to help him, User Grey's completely stacking the odds here!"

Blue: "Perhaps that is his strategy."

Grey: "What?"

The detective looked at his ally in bewilderment. Why would User Grey do that? And furthermore, why would John just announce that to the judges? And wasn't this breaking the fourth wall?

Blue: "Yes, he may be stacking the odds so hard to keep this from seeming like an easily-won battle. One single Melvin would have been more than enough for Janus to handle, but UGrey seems to be capitalizing on Janus' overconfidence and teaching him a lesson. If I were Janus, I would realize at this point that there is no reason to believe one can do everything himself. In fact, I would go so far as to actually ask us for help, rather than stay adamant to one's pride, as I suppose Janus will do."

Garro stayed silent throughout this entire endeavor. He didn't like the idea at all. Then again, he didn't like User Grey, either. He scowled, and walked over to the window. Janus had gotten up from the crater formed by the Melvins, and continued to recieve beating after beating from their presumedly relentless assault.

Garro: "He's just standing there, taking it.... He's an idiot."

----------------------------

Indeed, Janus was standing there and taking it, as he drew from his pocket one of the black backed CDs he had taken from Satchel before User Grey stopped its usage.

Janus: "Just... Gotta... Hang... In... There......."

He brought the disc up to his eyes, past a mouth that was already beginning to show a trickle of deep red blood, to a pair of glowing blue eyes, and began to scan. His footing shifted a bit on the rocks that had formed below him, but still he scanned. He needed to persevere. He would beat this.

At that point, the giant wrench belonging to F-S would have already circled around in the air, returning like a boomerang, on a crash course with Janus' back.

Up on top of a rocket-powered skateboard, L-T was holding onto Pa-T(T), and motioned for him to fly down. Both drew identical pairs of Gauss Machine Guns, and opened fire as they flew low over Janus' head, sending a cloud of supersonic metal projectiles hurtling towards him.

As for the others, P-A was sitting crosslegged, furiously scribbling out new kanji charms, complete with inkwell and brush and everything. F-T was hastily loading a new cartridge into his rocket launcher. P-T(N) was running on foot towards the action. At-T was hovering overhead, keeping an eye on everything, and P-T(R)... was spinning around on the ground.

Janus: "Auugh!"

His hardiness was tested thoroughly by the constant onslaught. Though he just barely managed to continue his scan by throwing himself to the ground and watching the wrench fly overt his head, no sooner had his eyes glowed azure than did the bullets come flying at him, ripping his suit and tearing holes in his skin, passing through him and leaving gaping exit wounds. His blood slathered the dirty terrain in red, and he collapsed to the ground, the disc of Saga Frontier shattering in mid-scan. There was no way he'd garner what he wanted from it now...

The familiar darkness of death overtook his eyes, and all seemed lost. The familiar white light that he was to go towards, where he would stay in limbo until his body regenerated. Or so he thought.

"Lay On Hands: Regen!!!"

A pair of white gloved hands, belonging to Garro, had pressed themselves against his bloody skin, filling him with life once again. Of all people, Garro would be the least likely to do this, but there was a time and a place for everything.

Garro: "Janus, I won't take over this fight for you...."

The bullets continued to fly at them as Garro placed a shield of white light around them. Evil had its purposes every now and then, and User Grey was really being a prick today. Janus regenerated in a few seconds, and the bullets lodged in his organs fell to the ground. Not fully healed, but at least he wasn't bleeding profusely anymore. Janus looked up...

Janus: "You.... Saved me?"

Garro: "Don't think of it as saving. Take this, you'll need it."

Garro stood, and the white light stood with him as he removed his coat and tossed it on the ground around Janus. It was bulletproof, for a small part at least. Those Gauss machine guns turned Janus into a pile of giblets in a few seconds, so Garro was a little unsure of what to do with his coat, but every little bit helped. There was more, though... Bundled in the coat was a small white pyramid, care of Agent Blue, and a Trigun-esque pistol that Janus instinctively knew belonged to the Detective.

"You'll get by... With a little help from your friends. God, you're an arrogant little bastard for thinking you could do this all yourself."

Janus: "I... am...."

He staggered to his feet and wrapped Garro's coat around him as Garro snapped his fingers, returning instantly to the spectator's booth. In the pocket of the coat, Janus found another small device, a tiny, lightsaber-sized steel rod. He looked at the booth, and Kalar raised an eyebrow from far away. Interesting...

"I guess... when you need help, it doesn't hurt to ask..."

Garro: "Ah, Janus? You might want to watch out!"

The priest's yell caught Janus' attention as the shield of white was let down, leaving Janus entirely vulnerable to the attacks of the nine Melvins once again. His friends... They'd definitely help him, if only he asked...

Janus: "Thanks.... guys..."

-----------------------------

In his office, User Grey smiled.

UGrey: "Heh, he's got it."

UGrey snapped his fingers as well, and disappeared into nothingness, ready for one final plot change...

(A sidenote: Vash's gun is based off the Mateba Model 6 Unica.)

The white glow that had spread through the entire arena had caught the attention of P-T(R), who stopped mid-breakdance and fell onto the side of his face, the rest of his body sticking up into the air. In a blur of motion, he was back on his feet. At this point, the field was already drenched, as it had begun to rain heavily in the past five minutes. But P-T(R) didn't even notice the artless symbolism, the robot's clothing and hair completely drenched as he walked towards the epicenter of the battle, in a complete stupor.

He passed several Melvins along the way, mainly P-A, F-T, Pa-T(Y), and AT-T, all of whom stared at him as though he were batshit insane. Problem was - this was P-T(R). He was. He waltzed right into the open area cleared out by the numerous explosions that had occured, and stopped right in front of Janus, with the entire crowd of Melvins watching on.

P-T(R): Hi there.

OOC EDIT: Thanks for the Trigun reference, btw. I was wondering what it was based off of. Is that what the text on the side of the gun says?

Janus: "Hello, little fellow. Are you here to blow me up, too?"

-----------------------------
UGrey: "He won't get a chance..."

User Grey walked through the catacombs of the Sim Battle Arena Annex, a small slip of paper that read "EVICTION NOTICE" lodged in his hands as he watched the fight from a small floating television that had materialized in front of him as he walked. Turning left suddenly, he entered a small chamber that housed a strange glass pod with a control panel beside it. He looked to the panel and entered in a secret sequence of numbers and letters. It was nearly time for the change. He was tired of just being "User" Grey...

------------------------------

Janus: "Or perhaps you'll shoot at me?"

Janus, now clad in Garro's coat, placed the artifacts in the coat's pockets. He finally recognized his need for help, and he was grateful to his friends for finally providing it, as well. This was it for him...

"It really doesn't matter that much to me, I'm pretty much ready for anything at this point. Considering I've been shot at, blown up, lacerated, and attacked with a giant wrench, there's only two things I've got left to expect, and with the help of my friends, I know I can overcome whatever you've got to offer!"

It was then, of course, that a terrifying realization hit Janus...

"Wait a second, I just monologued..."

Which meant User Grey wasn't at his desk...

As the Melvins leave the stage and Grey realizes his plot has been foiled by the destroyer of all intentions (that'd be time), he sinks to his knees and begins to cry...

Grey: "CURSES!!!!!!!"

Janus: "Hey, man, it's ok..."

Grey: "Huh?"

Grey looks up to see that Janus is still in this universe, despite his best efforts.

"You're still alive! So is everyone else!"

Janus is dumbfounded by this conclusion, and expresses his feelings vocally...

Janus: "What're you talking about? Teddylot and cpubasic13 fired the actors that play the Detective, Red, Green, and Blue, and sent them off to the SF to get new jobs, don't you remember? Kalar, Garro, and I are the only Sim Battlers left on your payroll, the rest went to the SF department to work for Sam and Kirbynite."

Grey: "Really?"

Janus: "Yeah, you got your wish in some strange, implicit way."

Grey: "So what's that mean?"

Janus: "It means, for all intents and purposes, the plotholes have been cleaned up and you're the only Grey left. The True Grey."

Grey: "Oh.... But what about the SF?"

Janus: "I don't really know... I suppose the universes could merge at some point, but as far as I know the only ones left in the SF universe are you, me, Kalar, and Garro. In any case, I lost to Melvin thanks to you. Stop screwing with the plot, and thank god you're not the Mod of the arena anymore... Jeez."

Janus shouldered his hammer and began trudging away to heal his gratuitously inflicted wounds...

Grey: "Wait, wait! One last question!"

Janus turned around and scowled...

Janus: "What?"

Grey: "Where are Red, Green, Blue, and the Detective now?"

Janus: "Still in the SF, I suppose. Confined to Dracoon's universe, just like you wanted, remember? Which means you can go off and play with your little SF buddies now. As for me, I have to go back to Ragnarok: Dark or Light, they need me in there. I think Kalar and Garro are already there, too."

Grey: "Yeah...."

Janus: "I'll see you around, Grey. Good luck with that Sonic Adventure 2 story..."

Grey: "Right..."

As the lights go down in the arena, Grey is left alone to his own devices...

...is about what goes through my mind when I read this fight. WAY TOO CONFUSING!

But Grey gets my vote once again, for mastering plot devices once again. Melvin was VERY close in plot-manipulation, with all those Melvins, but Grey really melded it the best, and he gets my vote.

Remember, I judge on creativity.

As Dracoon's voice rang out over the intercom system, P-T(R)'s face fell.

P-T(R): Oh... it's over already? But I didn't get a chance to...

The eyes behind the reploid's glasses suddenly both flickered to large "3"'s. Then 2's. Then 1's.

And without warning (Well, maybe three seconds warning), nigh every armor plate on P-T(R)'s body arched out 45 degrees, covering his body with gaping holes - all of which were subsequently filled with cartoonish cyndrical missiles, which fired out and into the sky, leaving elaborate smoke trails... as they arced back towards the arena.

P-T(N): OH SHIIIIIIII-

And just like that, the arena was littered with explosions, several of which sent various Melvins spiraling into the sky.

Grey looked on at the wanton destruction in amusement...

Grey: "Ha, it's a good thing I won't have to clean THAT mess up."
