That wasn't the trials-- there's a trial of skill, a trial of the flesh, and a trial of the spirit. And besides, he failed that test in the cave.

Well, I had a shitty week, so I went and saw the movie yesterday. I certainly enjoyed it more than I enjoyed episodes 1 and 2. The thing with Padme gave me the irrits. |

I wrote this review a while ago: That was the BEST sleep of my life. Running Length: Forever Rating: PG for Pretty Gay. If you plan on actually watching the movie, then prepared for a neck breakingly boring experience. The movie was about as exciting as sliding down a slide made out of razor blades and into a pool of iodine. The movie gave me more seizures than playing opposing force. The movie starts with two jedis flying around for NO FUCKING REASON and landing inside the enemy ship to kill a bunch of droids who come from NO WHERE! then, they go into an elevator. I forgot the rest, but I fell asleep. When I woke up, obi wan was on some lizard and was going to kill someone, who reminded me much of Snoop Dogg. I thought this guy was going to beat obi-Wan down with his 1337 rapping skillz but instead fought him. I fell asleep. When I woke up, they were all in a volcano. This confirmed my prediction of the movie being cinematic hell. Supposedly Anakin became Darth Vader. I dunno. I fell asleep until the credits, where I came home and watched a fish drown. It was the highlight of the day. Little fishy drowning. Acting: They act too hard Direction: Lucas does a good job of directing us to the theater to waste 2.5 hours of our life Overall rating: 2 hands down. |

Probably has a coupling of severe ADD with narcolepsy. I think Phantom Menace is way more boring compared to this. The plot is tidy, and flows rapidly from start to finish.

Back to the "Luke wasn't really a Jedi, just a good guy" argument, I'm going to quote someone on another board whom I agree with: "The way I saw it was that he does bring about a balance in the force by incorporating light and dark side teachings together. And he doesn't get it quite right, but his son Luke does. Part of the reason that what Palpatine said about the Jedi's views being too narrow was so seductive was because it was true, even if he was just as narrow-minded in holding to his Sith views, and only said it to turn Anakin. The Jedi believe any attachment to a person is bad, because it can lead to what happened to Anakin. But when Luke goes to rescue Han and Leia, that turns out to be for the best. There's a difference between caring for someone and wanting to help them, and caring for someone and being willing to do anything to save them. Just because some attachments might lead some people to the dark side doesn't mean that all attachments are evil. And Palpatine is quite open to the idea of converting someone from the light side to the dark side, and manages to do so with Dooku, and with Anakin, and he sure as hell tries with Luke. But the Jedi, as soon as someone goes to the dark side, their only answer is to kill them. Yoda doesn't send Obi-Wan to talk to Anakin and try to show him the error of his ways, he sends him to "destroy" him. When Luke goes to confront Vader, he still believes he can be brought back, despite what Yoda and Obi-Wan say. And he ends up being right. It seems like in that way, not sticking to the dogma of one side or the other, but instead putting together the best of what each side offers, he brings balance to the force. That's what I took out of it, anyway." Maybe you lot are differing from me in reading "Jedi" as good guy. Did you SEE Revenge of the Sith? The Jedi fucked up a lot - they were inflexibile, kinda corrupt, and way too narrowminded and dogmatic. |

I'm just going to quickly point out that Vader/Anakin did bring balance to the force.... who killed the Emperor? Vader/Anakin.... not Luke in the end he does bring a balance to the force |

Originally posted by Arwon Not true. Spoiler: When Mace Windu is about to strike Palpatine down, Anakin tells him that it's "not the Jedi way". Anakin also espoused this when he killed Dooku, saying he was an unarmed prisoner, and shouldn't have been killed. Yoda only turned to destroying the Sith because he knew the Jedi Order would not survive if they were not destroyed. |

Return of the Jedi marks the beginning of the return of the Jedi order, beginning with Luke. Additionally Arwon, in many instances in the Expanded Universe, Dark Jedi are turned back to the light. In fact, many light jedis go back and forth. |

Well, the first half was a snorefest... As soon as Anakin started falling to the darkside it got much better, though. Which pretty much highlights what the Star Wars saga is... It's the rise of Anakin Skywalker, his fall from grace as Darth Vader, and his redemption once again as Skywalker. The dialogue was god awful in places... NEVER let Lucas near a word processor, jesus... Personally, I loved the last half of the film, apart from Vader's moment of angst when he finds out Spoiler: he killed his "bird" (edited by Kasumi Skywalker on 05-23-05 09:47 AM) |
