Anyone heard of it? It sounds awesome. It's a project to allow people to play games like Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Kirby's Airride, and others over the internet. Imagine the possiblities! For more info, just search Google using Project Warp Pipe. |

I really hate to rain on your parade, but that sounds something like an emulator's netplay option. do you mean like a chatroom and that, like blizzards battle.net? or a live acmlmboard coupled with emulator support?

Nope. From www.nintendohead.com... "As further progress is made, news also comes that the need for a router has been axed, so players will be able to use Warp Pipe with the following: -Hub/Switch Direct to Internet -NAT (DSL/Cable Router) -Two PC Network Cards -NAT + Hub/Switch -USB Cable Modem + One PC Network Card It is hoped the beta will allow anybody with a GameCube and a connection (see above) to play Mario Kart, as well as possibly Kirby Air Ride and 1080: Avalanche. Version 1.0, which will follow sometime in spring 2004, will include a front-end user interface and other additional features. Cross your toes.." It doesn't seem like it. |

I don't have an XBox, so I don't know. About the games, I'm not sure. Does 1080: Avalanche have that feature? Edit: Yay! I'm now a Fuzzy! (edited by Peardian on 05-19-05 05:28 AM) |

Warp Pipe, (As far as I know) only works for games that have been designed for LAN play. Warp Pipe tricks the Gamecube into making a LAN connection over the internet, by plugging it into a router and such. SSBM doesn't have LAN play (But that would rock) so you can't, (As of this time play it online.) However, there has been talk of an device that would take what is currently happening on the Gamecube, and broadcast that over the net, to somebody else's Gamecube, allowing for normal multiplayer games to be online. But, that would take a modded Gamecube, and probably cost more than it's worth... But Four Sword Adventures would be awesome to play online.... |

It's possible, but difficult, to 'add' netplay via an AR. Basically it just does the same thing as an emulator would. Problem is, one nanosecond of lag and you're screwed.

SSBM may not have LAN capabilities, but SSB3 for Revolution might... For the online multiplayer thing, Nintendo could just create an attachment like the GBA player thing. |

Warp-pipe technologies has stopped the progress of Warp-pipe for something bigger like DeMasked. Im not sure that is what they have been working on but according to their words, they needed to "move on". As far as the non LAN games online, there is one problem... the Random Number Generator. It is theoretically possible for everything else to work out, but when random numbers are generated on other's gamecubes, they could go out of sync. |

Yes, that's one reason you can't really make an 'add-on' that does it without modifying the game's code. They'd need to be hacked to either get random numbers from their host or use some sort of algorithm that ensures each game will generate the same number (lookup tables maybe?). Unless, of course, the GCN contains some kind of standard random number system that everything uses, then it should be no problem to just sync that. (I don't think it does though.) Actually, I remember hearing that most if not all GCN games use the official SDK, which means they would all have the exact same code for simple functions like random numbers. That means you could probably do a 'seek-and-replace' kind of thing... A program could automatically find and tweak a game's random number code. Either way, though, it still means running custom code. |

I once downloaded Warp Pipe, but I never got around to trying it because I never had LAN adapter. |
