I don't care what others have to say, I love my PsP (oh and I have played the DS). I've had no trouble what so ever with the battery life and the whole dead pixel issue is overrated. I have dead pixles on mine (maybe about 5) and I do not notice the while playing a game or while watching a movie.
But come on, to each is own anyway. Nintendo has their market and Sony has there's. I enjoy what Sony and its games have to offer.
The only game that I like on the DS is Wario Touch, but I still don't like the idea of blowing into my handheld.
I currently own two movies and four games (Dynasty Warriors, Wipeout Pure, Darkstalkers, and Hotshots Golf and I'm planning on getting more later on (like the new Burnout, Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition, Sonic, Ys, and the ones based from FF7).
Of course, paying only $35 for the PsP helps aswell. I traded in some of my games that I wasn't playing anymore, some movies and my GBA. I had the GBA for the classics anyway, and I can get that elsewhere. But normally, the price for the system is $250, $200 used, and later on, we think around $190 dollars.
Honestly, the PsP's rival is actually the GBA SP and not the DS. Heck, we're selling more GBAs now than the DS and we have people bringing back their DS for either the PsP or the GBA.
I'll give Nintendo this, they make very durable systems. Either in their console market or handhelds, they are always made to last.
I don't know, I just don't like the idea of tapping a screen to play a certain game. At first its kinda fun (especially Wario) but after a bit, at least with me, it gets old. And when you play old GBA games, its a little annoying having one screen on and the other one off.
Dozens of buttons?! Its the same as a Ps2 controller (and actually, with the Ps3, you can use the PsP as a controller). The normal four, and the trigger. Now, if it had two analog sticks, then you know something is wrong.
And with the dics, they're in a protective case, so as long as you don't play around with the disc, you should be fine. But I do like how its easier to change games with the GBA than with the PsP. I mean, you can abuse the GBA and it keeps ticking. You just have to be more careful with the PsP unit and games.

knuck: remember, you're in acmlm land, where nintendo is god and they can do no wrong.
Fucking nintendo fanboys.
I am SOLD to PSP. Unless DS has some Spectacular, and i mean SPECTACULAR games, it's going to be screwed over by PSP's versatility. |

I can respond to that in two words:
Nokia N-Gage. Remember? The all-in-one cell phone that totally bombed when (Amongst other things) a high-ranking Nokia executive basically called their target audience 10-year-olds and/or nerds?
Yeah.
Versatility alone will not win it for Sony, while, to be fair, they didn't go as far as alienating their target audience yet, the "our Square button isn't quite working right, but screw it, we're not fixing it" debacle was a step in that direction.
Oh yeah, and it lacks cuddly puppies too. |

Let's say for intance the N-Gage never existed.
Sony could have made the exact same thing and it STILL would have been successful because of the name "Sony" on it.
Not to compare the two really, because the PSP is worlds above it.
As for me, I'm not getting a PSP for a long time, if ever. Too expensive of an item for something I would probably rarely use. Plus, I don't see the point in making movies for it. You can't play them in regular dvd players so you're basically stuck watching something on a small handheld. That doesn't appeal to me much.
That, and I'm going to be using a walkman for the rest of my life, most likely.
As for the DS, I don't really see the point in owning one, at least not yet. The price is right though, so that's a plus. But there's no real reason in me buying one right now. There's a serious lack of games for it. When the GBA came out, great titles were FLOODING the market and there were many more to come too. It's a shame that it has since slowed down in the past year or so and good games are few and far between. :/ I demand more Castlevania.
The dual screen isn't really a positive for the DS however and I can't really say it's a negative. It just seems so unnecessary. Besides, having used many touchscreen devices before, I can say that they suck. Eventually, you'll have scratches all over it and certain parts of the screen will eventually lose responsiveness. Lame.

Hey. Relax, guy! Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is coming Q4, so let's just wait the 6 months. So many games are coming out Q4: Mario Kart, Metroid Prime: Hunters, Animal Crossing.
I tried the GC version of Animal Crossing, and hated it. To me, it seemed like Harvest Moon, but much more pointless.
Metroid Prime: Hunters I'm definately NOT getting!!! Fuck, the game won't be online! There's no in-depth story mode, just running around killing other bounty hunters. If it was online, it'd be a killer app... Dumbass *points to makers*
Metroid Dread will be another title coming to the DS. Good old side-scrolling adventure.
And! No more annoying Four Swords for the DS. It's going to be a full blown adventure game. |

Now it's time to basically compare them, from how I see it
(keep in mind, I own both handhelds, and am not against the big N -- the sheer truckload of GB(C/A) games I own (and <3) tells that. Same with Sony. Great games there too)
DS | PSP | Is Nintendo's 4th venture into the handheld market | Is Sony's first | Costs $150 | Costs $250 | Has name-brand games (Mario, Zelda) | Has more name-brand games (Ridge Racer, Wipeout) | Has a touch screen* | Has the same amount of gameplay buttons** | Plays GBA games | Plays movies, videos, and shows pictures -- downloadable off a PC, at that | Has no dead pixels*** | Has no dead pixels and a perfect square button**** | Uses tough-to-damage cartriges | Uses protected discs |
* Which is horribly unfair to us lefties ** Which are bigger than the DS's, which is very nice for those of us with larger hands *** (at least, mine doesn't) **** neither mine nor my friend's PSP does
*Alexa wonders how many Nintendo fanboys are offended |

God... time for my opinion.
About the PSPs "other-gamerly features"...
Music - If I want music, I'll use my portable CD player.
Movies - If I want movies, I shall go to my television... what's this, PORTABLE THOUGH? Well guess what, I'd rather wait and get home and watch movies on a screen that's worth it.
Web Browser - ...........I have a computer for that.
The meaning of handheld play is for me is to play little games when I'm on the go, that don't need much thinking power, and are fun, not some over beefed super graphical game. I have a damn PS2 and Gamecube for that!
Winner: GAME BOY ADVANCE
PSP and DS can go rot... until Dawn of Sorrow comes out. :O

I would see use for web browser on handhelds if Wifi spots was more common.
And the way PSP uses a browser, it needs a computer to fool it.
I can see a browser for DS coming out soon, as people figured out how to run DS programs from GBA flash cart.
Both handhelds don't really have any ultimate killer APP currently that will make people go OMGFZ. Sure SM64DS is nice, especially if you hadn't played the orginal but...
And oh, there seems to be more remakes for PSP than DS. But the remakes for both systems aren't more than a handful, and remakes aren't bad. People whine when companies don't make them, or they whine WHEN they make them. Geez.
Both handhelds can techincally offer Music and movies, just not offically on Nintendo's. |

Why I bought NintendoDS:
1st: It's a Nintendo-Handheld, of course I bought it.
Why I didn't buy Playstation Portable yet: It's too expensive here in Europe, for Imports, about 500.- (w/o games) and the only Game that I know of, that does interest me is Densha de Go.
But my favorite Handheld is still the Game Boy Advance, not only does it have a good size or lies good in my Hands, thanks to a Afterburner it has a foregroundlight and it runs on Batteries, just replace when empty. (And they last up to 30 hours). And it has the largest Gamelibrary for any non-PC Gaming Device (16 Years of Content), only Revolution may beat it.
For those features WHY I should buy this or that Handheld: here my opinions on those:
Plays Music: Guess what, my iPod can do that way better. (and it cost's less than both, DS or PSP). Plays Movies: Movies are IMO for the big Screen. I go to the theater for Movies. Goes in the Internet, I have a PC, and Internet needs a Keyboard and more than 800*600 Pixels for Acmlm-Posting. It has that or this Franchise coming out: If the game's not really on the market, I don't buy the console. Don't forget: Games sells Gaming Devices.
*KawaiiImoto-e goes and plays Wario Land II and Donkey Kong (GB). |

Google answers all!
Doing a simple search gave the following results:
DS Sux = 336,000 found PSP Sux = 376,000 found
So, the end result: More people think the PSP sux, over the DS.
...What a useless post! |
