I've tried both (in fact, I own a DS and am planning on buying a PSP) The DS was good... and then the PSP came out. Then the amazing graphics, 'holy shit this is addictive' games, the sheer expansibility of the system (already a web browser, emulators for it, and more? hot damn!) and so many better games just overwhelmed the pathetic DS. And for what... 50, mabye 100$ more for tons more, including a carrying case, movie, and several other things (inc. a 32M stick) ... I'm won. The PSP has kicked the DS's ass. Unless Nintendo can pump out some killer-apps for it (WW:Touched was too short) to counter with some of the PSP's addictive gameplay (Lumines, Wipeout Pure)... bye bye DS. |

Even though I've never tried the PSP (won't be out until September over here ), I won't be buying one (for lots of reasons). The primary reason is that none of the announced games really appeal to me, at all. I rarely play new games now, and the new games I usually play are either remakes of old titles, or stuff that has a different gaming experience. Also, I've read tons of articles that state there are problems with the hardware, and short battery life. Even though apparently things are getting better, it's still damaged the PSP's reputation in my eyes. Finally, it's just too damn expensive. According to this, it will be |

I can only bring one word to this thread: DS Well... maybe some more: Same really as dan's reason. The expense it will be in the UK (I got my DS with 1 free game and a free 25 pound (about $45-$50) starter kit with screen protectors, screen cleaner etc. for 100 pounds), and the fact the games don't appeal to me. And wasn't Sony's solution to the problem just to give you a spare battery??? they should have just tried to make a longer lasting battery suited for the PSP, cos that means you now have to charge two batteries |

Name recognition is the largest factor, this is why the PSP is the winning. |

Despite the fact that a more comparable opponent to the PSP would be the GBA? I'd say the DS: - Interactivity (I have fun with the mic minigames in WW: Touched, and others who have never played them before get hooked) - Two Screens (One for stats, the other for gameplay, and each has a better resolution than the GBA) - Better battery life - The games. I love what they have out so far (SM64DS, FtM, MPH:FH, Polarium, WW:Touched, Yoshi's TnG, PacPix), and the fact that the carts can hold so much for their size (128MB on that little card!), - It - and the games - are cheap. $150 for the system, and $30-$40 for the games new. And most of the time (This is because WW:Touched was $35), the first-party games are $30, and that's what everyone should get for the DS. - It pisses people off when I pick it in a debate like this because they feel the need to compare the two. |

I want my game systems to have good games (gasp!?), I don't care about the rest. From what I can see, the only really good game for it is Lumines. One game is not enough to make me buy a system; especially when the system is $250, I'm rather short on funds, and the system has a horrendous battery life. About DS games being cheap, they're actually cheaper here than the GBA games. I guess it's cheaper to produce the DS carts than GBA. Currently the lineup looks pretty bleak for both of them (SM64DS is very nice, but you beat it very quickly if you have played the orginal...). But games like Advance wars DS changes that. (i'm still addicted to AW2 ) I might consider Durability. I never had good experince with Sony equipment, at least the few portable ones they made... and handhelds using moving parts will detoirate more than cartdrige based systems. Then I wonder how long the touch screen on a DS will be ok, mine is fine but I wonder after a few years... |

Not a fair poll really, since Nintendo has stated that the DS is not the successor to the GBA. Nintendo could eventually come out with something soon that blows the PSP away. I own a DS, and it's fine. I enjoy it, since I never owned a GBA anyways. Honestly though, I don't care. Even if I had both, I probably wouldn't favor one. I'm just not that much of a handheld gamer. |

I currently own for the DS: Super Mario 64 DS Wario-Ware Touched Both games are pretty damn good. Some of the changes in Mario game made my jaw drop. Even seeing the first stage re-done is amazing. The Chain-Chomp is filled out much more and doesn't get parts of him missing when he gets too close the to screen. I've fully paid my pre-order of Yoshi's Touch and Go (doesn't come out here untill June 30th! and I might get Polarium this Friday. There are so many awesome games in development for the DS: Final Fantasy III Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Game Arts (creators of the Grandia series) are also making an RPG Lunar Genisis Mario Kart DS (OMG ONLINE!!!!! ) Super Mario DS Maybe even plans for a Super Smash Bros. game, as they've mentioned it in an official Nintendo poll. Castlevania DS (sequel to Aria of Sorrow) Quite a few strategy games. Can you imagine playing Red Alert on the touch screen? *drools* What are PSP owners looking forward to? Maybe a Gran Turismo game, a FF7 game and other games that've been done so many times before that they're all so boring! In my opinon, the DS rox0rz because it's something completely new and innovative. The PSP doesn't offer anything new other than a huge price-tag, and expensive-to-buy movies. It's just a PS2 on the go. And I've been told that the came cards hold 256MB or 1Gbit. I know of a couple of games where people have confirmed the size to be 256MB. |

Haven't actually gotten to try either one but they both cater to different markets, really. Don't really know if you'd be able to call it a handheld battle but they both seem to be holding their own at the moment - although it seems like Nintendogs might be the DS killer app. Plus a lot of DS games aren't coming out until later this year, so it's more like a build-up to the good stuff. |

The only ones I can think of is the Dogz series, which was intresting in one way. And that's how the graphics. Each dog (and cat, if you had Catz) was made of furballs. That made them to look cute and all, but the "game" wasn't very deep. Nintendogs definatly seems deeper and so far it's been a success. Loving pets and all, I probably get it when it's released. >.>; Hehe, I hope we can have tournaments on this board with the diffrent DS online games. |

PSP versus DS: (note: all things relate to my system, as any 'update' or whatever released has not been aquired, should there be any. They're pretty much out-of-the-box) PSP... - Movies - Music - Pictures - Online connectivity - Huge screen... - ...with amazing graphics - Excellent sound - Fits comfortably in hand - Can change settings/games without turning the system off - Horribly addictive games (Wipeout Pure, Lumines) - Web Browser (in Wipeout Pure, although it's a bit hackish, but it WORKS) DS... - Longer battery life - Two screens (not that it's 'wow' cool, it's just a nice bonus) - Billions of ports from games I've never played - Backwards compatibility with GBA - Wireless chat - Some good games My PSP = my friend. I used to like the DS, but the PSP is just amazing (as a note: I was at first very skeptical of the PSP, but since actually testing it, it has NO FLAWS. No bad square button. No dead pixels. Nothing. Not to mention the buttons/d-pad are larger, so I'm not always hitting the wrong button) |

Originally posted by ScatterheartI find it funny to see someone defending Nintendo with that argument. Just look at the list of DS game you posted earlier: Originally posted by ScatterheartOne of them is a remake, 2 of them are Mario games (and Gran Turismo SURELY is more overrated than Mario. srsly) and another is a sequel to an overrated (but not bad) plataform game. Seriously, what games have been done so many times before that they're boring? I agree with Xk, 2 screens isn't a that awesome. Actually, I think it's useless. |

I'd wager that both the DS and PSP have their own fair share of excellent games. They both have wi-fi internet access and both are planned to connect wirelessly in some way to their respective consoles next year. I think they both have microphones, too. But they also each have unique features... PSP (edited by Slay on 05-20-05 08:11 PM) |

I could care less about the touchy touchy gimmicks, as long as I get my 2D Castlevanias, Marios and Sonics I'll be perfectly fine. |
