Just a piece of randomness here, for fun.

What do you label your hard drives / partitions? Do you give them funny names? Do you label them according to what you are going to put on the drive?

My drives used to be named after the Magi in Evangelion

Now they are named (mostly) after what is on them. C:\ is "WINDOZE" D:\ is "WORK", E:\ is "MEDIA" and G:\ is "FATBOY" (it's a 200Gb drive).

There's also another drive that doesn't have a label -- the Linux partitions.

What do you name your drives?

Wow, I guess i'm just not interesting. All mine are titled "Local Drive" I guess I just like the default more than thinking up my own. Interesting thing about my drives, for some reason, A:\ - H:\ were taken up by my floppy, dvd, dvd-r, and four usb drives that are non existent so my first hd starts at I:\ and goes to K:\. I could change it, but i kinda like the high letter drives instead of the usual C.

C: 13.9GB - "System"
D: 18.6GB - "Games"
E: 18.6GB - "Media
F: 23.2GB - "Storage"
G: 111GB - "Extra Storage"

C:-F: are all one drive (an 80GB WD) and G: is a 120GB WD with only 1 partition. I found it pointless to partition the drive since I keep stuff sorted in folders, anyway.

Heh

I didn't think that people actually renamed their drives. I don't really see a point in me doing it though, I know what's where.

Come to think of it, I'm not really sure why I've named mine, I know where things are. I guess I did name "MEDIA" so that the other people in the house though would know where stuff like that is -- and where to put it.

Not that they do seem to put things in there, they just fill up C:\ until Windows has a cry at me and I move it....

I partition for two reasons: (1) to isolate the system files (OS, Temp Files, Pagefiles) and (2) To improve program load times.

As for naming them, just labeled them so I remember what is for what.

I give them names, but not funny ones.

C:\ = Programs
D:\ = Downloads
E:\ = Movies & Games
F:\ = Audio
G:\ = Emus & Roms

Hehe, got a lot of drives, lol.

I name them after what's on them. Or what was ment to be on them.

C:\ System
D:\ Spill = Games
E:\ Dokumenter = Documents
F:\ Skole = School

Although, looking at it now, I think it's time to do some cleaning and rearranging.

well, here's how my partitioning/label scheme (40GB hard disk; 38GB with binary measurement) goes:

Primary 1: NTFS, C: in Windows 2000. Label is "Windows 2000". 10GB (3.6GB used)
Primary 2: Extended. 28GB
Logical 1: root (/) partition in Slackware. Label is Slakware10. 5GB (4.4GB used)
Logical 2: /home partition in Slackware. Doesn't have a label. 22GB (3.9GB used)
Logical 3: Swap for Slackware. Swap don't need labels (or support them). 1GB

I really do hate the awful letter system after using Linux. I really do. hda1 sounds cooler than c:\

...

My disk configurations are bland, it only get intresting if you include my computer with Linux on. Which have a partition for Windows, another partition for Linux and another partition for swap. (It would be a good idea from Microsoft if they decided to make a swap filesystem, it's faster)

Disk 0 (which had SMART warnings, that only appeared on 1 april. So it can fail anyday... )
C:\ 9.79 GB NTFS Windows and a few programs, mostly critical and preinstalled programs. And we store most of our documents there too for some stupid reason. (I would rather have my documents on my other HD...)
D:\ 46.11 GB NTFS Games games and games, and various programs is installed here. Mostly programs I got before I installed my other HD
Disk1
g:\ 48.82 GB NTFS (yes, I skipped a few letters which was taken by my CD drive, sure I could use E but NTFS gives me the option to assign any letter) New games, and here is where all my downloads go now. And there is alot of backup here, becuse I don't trust my first HD...
~ 25.70 GB not allocated Some unused space, reserved for future usage. Maybe installing a linux distro. Probably Slackware as that's the one i'm most comfortable with (and people say it's hard to use ).

I label them by disk and partition, Linux-style, along with a short description.
A: Floppy, duh
C: "HDB0" (Old XP install, for recovery and hacking system files, until I bother formatting it )
D: CD-ROM
E: "Windows (HDA1)" (Current XP install - Windows' installer's partitioning system is a huge pain )
F: "Files (HDA6)" (All my actual stuff)
G: "HDB1" (Second partition which I had installed Mandrake on at one point, never used, and formatted for extra space)
H: "Local Disk" (Gentoo; read-only access using a driver I found. It supports write access but it's dangerous so I keep it turned off.)
I: "Local Disk" (Gentoo's \boot. Why can't I give these 'fake' labels in Windows anyway? )

Also, yes, Linux's drive system is in many ways superior to Windows'. One big reason being that in Windows you can't drop down to root and use 'dir /s file.whatever' to search all the disks.
