The DVD add-on probably won't cost much. Rumor has it Nintendo's doing this so that they don't have to tack on royalty fees onto the console - making it a bit cheaper.

Could be said, I don't like how Microsoft have been in the past. If there is a competitor they buy or try to buy it up. Althought their stance on open source have gotten better lately, mostly becuse Microsoft is starting to lose shares in all areas but console gaming. Ziff: They already have a point system in Europa, you get stars when you buy certain games. They don't have that system in Sweden, but some of the games still have papers about it. xD Well, not having Rare didn't stop nintendo from porting Donkey kong country. New Game Boy looks good, new Nintendo looks good, and the new Games for the old console look good. The only problem is that there is too less money for all those goodies. Just watching the Sony Conference now, and I think that the Nintendo one was more about saying Wow, clapping, be in a show, being entertained and briefed. The Sony conference is mostly just.. a boring PPT. And I just love the download function, I just hope it won't work like the Star-Catalogue of NoE, 'cause that is only aviable in certain countries. I wish one system for the hole globe, for US, Europe and Japan, as they mentioned with onlineplaying, as in a Japanese (Someone) owns a American (Acmlm) while partnering with a European (Kitten Yiffer) against one from down under (DJBouche or Atma). |

*sniff sniff* Wow, it REAKS of fanboyism in here. So I'll make it short.... Gameboy Micro. Is this thing for real or is this a joke? It's not April, so I assume it's real....but why? Nintendo Revolution looks badass though. I'm definitely hopping on that train, especially so I can school everyone and their mother at Smash Bros. =-o "You will be able to Download NES, Super NES and N64 games." If it costs anything over 5 dollars for ALL of them, I'm not buying. |

I spent the majority of my time while at volunteering yesterday reading up on the three systems coming out, especially the one being discussed in this thread (don't tell anyone I wasted my time though ) I'd have to say the most appealing thing about the Revolution itself is the ability to download games. Finally, after so long, I'll be able to play games for the SNES that I've only been able to get to on my computer The thing I wonder about though, is whether you'll be able to download any game for those three consoles, or just the ones Nintendo made Sure, even if the latter is what happens, there will still be a lot of games to download and play, and then I can't really think of many non-Nintendo made games I'd want to play, but still it would be nice to have all of them As for the console in itself, it looks very nice. Not to say the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 don't as well, but I don't exactly have plans to buy either of those. I saw in my reading yesterday that it's supposed to be released sometime in 2006. Anyone reading this thread probably knows that by now, but it makes me hopeful that we get our money by then. Unfortunately, our Uncle died about 2 months ago now, but he left everyone in my immediate and extended family $2000. It should be obvious what part of that's going towards As for the Gameboy mini, it sounds pretty neat I wonder how much smaller they're going to make it before the screen gets hard to see though Added onto that, however, is the question of how many more they need to make before it's enough I guess that'll happen when they start to notice less and less sales of the things. Very nice looking and sounding stuff altogether though. I'm definitely looking forward to next year |

I saw a pic of it yesterday, it looks pretty good. I'd like to see the controllers though. I'd like to know what games would be on it and how good the graphics are too.

It's a given that the downloadable games will be charged for, or else that eliminates the purpose of 3rd party stores IRL and companies ever wanting to release ports of games (collections)... so yeah, expect to pay money. (edited by Ralphy Boy on 05-18-05 09:02 AM) |

Well, *IF* that's how Nintendo's going to compete... less processing power = less chips = lower cost to manufacture. Which would be tres sweet indeed if Nintendo could release a system with graphics at par with the 360/PS3 and at a cheaper price point.

If PS3 was going to be as expensive as they said, well. I can see revolution making a breakthrough if the other consoles are too expensive for most people. Didn't NES breakthrough becuse people could afford it? And Nintendo seems to try being more devoloper friendly, while they hadn't sent out SDK's to the devolopers yet. They probably will this year. |

I was quite excited about the downloadable games as well, but then I realized something. Nintendo doesn't own rights to every NES, SNES and N64 game ever made. They only own rights to their own games, and probably a lot of second-party games (Donkey Kong, SSB1, Kirby games, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark). I doubt we'll be able to download FF5j or Super Castlevania III. Though, the companies who do own the rights to those games could use Nintendo's downloading service, and charge their own fees. My prediction is that NES and SNES games from Nintendo will be free, N64 games will have nominal charges, and all games from second and third parties will cost a bit more.

A thought came to mind about the downloading classic games. What about games that utilize the Zapper like Duck Hunt, Baby Boomer, Bayou Billy and Hogans Alley? (edited by Darth Legious on 05-20-05 03:58 AM) |

Originally posted by Darth XeodiousNow, I don't know if anyone else said this, but I had seen in a magazine a controller that let you move the two control sticks, the dpad, and the buttons to different spots. The face buttons buttons were on one circular piece, and the two sticks and d-pad were on their own. That's all the info I have, unfortunately. Maybe that's what they have in mind? |

That sounds more likely than my hair-brained DG controller, but they'll assuredly use gyroscopes in some way. |
