Anyone remember this game? I just legally got this game, and it's proving to be quite fun. The graphics are eyesores, but the skill progression system and the whole "day in the lives of seven people" concept is very interesting to me. I think Live a Live was like this on the SNES, but I find SaGa Frontier to be a little more interesting (primarily because I can read the text without having to deal with a translation patch).

So far my favorite games are Red's, Blue's, and T260G's.

But then, there's a good chance you think this game could suck horribly. I know the critics did.

Never played it but I *did* see the reviews.

It's the SaGa series, which definitely has different game mechanics compared to other Square games. (If nobody knows, the GB Final Fantasy Legend games were all SaGa ports - with FFL1 quite possibly winning the award for WORST translation ever in a Square game, let alone all-time.)

Live at Live!?

Well, I need to play this game if you're comparing it to that.

Surprised someone else has even played Live at Live in the world.

Colleen: I thought Final Fantasy Legend was actually the first Seiken Densetsu?
Maybe it's Final Fantasy Adventure, or something else that I'm thinking of ...

Yeah, you're thinking FFA.

FFL was cool because you fought someone who was rather clearly supposed to be God at the end, even though they called him "Creator". This also proves that the "OMG DEEP SYMBOLISMS!!!11!" of games like FFT or Xenogears were hardly new for Square even then.

Creator was likely due to Nintendo's policies back then, but the whole game... man. The MANUAL isn't that bad (and at 80 pages was good for those days GB-wise) but once you got into the game it was ugly. 2 and 3 improved on the text somewhat but 1 is... primitive in every sense of the word.

and then in the second game, you kill the god of every fskng solar system it's rather humorous. The gods die forever yet your dad is revived at least 4 times throughout the course of the game

Yeah, and the final boss was a bit of a WTF to be honest...

Spoiler:
Can't think of many Square RPG's where a mechanical entity featured as the end boss.

Blue's scenario > all. I went through all 7 scenario's and finished with Blue, so he would get the goodies at the end. (It's nothing that great anyway, you can fight the 7 last bosses again, and a couple other things that don't really make any sense) on top of the soundtrack being opened, among other things.

I have SaGa Frontier II, it is very much similar to SF1 ?
On the other hand I love Romancing SaGa 3, and though the following parts never payed that much attention to me, it is nice to have challenging RPGs. I finished RS3 but later on I stopped playing SF2.
I like also the music and the idea of learning techniques in battle only, what also applies to SaGa 1

No! I got this game after reading rave reviews in Gamepro in like 1997-98. But with such crappy graphics and music, I realized how utterly crappy(for a lack of a better word) the game was. There wasn't really a story and the game dragged on for too long. The combos, I admit, were fairly cool. My main team was Blue(main), Roufas, Riki(not sure), Fuse, and maybe Lute. Even though I owned many a monster, I still wasn't feeling it. The game wasn't all that fun.

I saw it today at a local collectibles store of mine [Vintage Stock] for $14.99.

Judging by your post, I think I'm better off with Power Stone, Soul Calibur, Sonic the Hedgehog (bought it for the hell of it, I mean it was $2), and Out of this World (SNES).

All for about $30.

(Yes Craw, if you're reading this, I got Power Stone.
Not the 2nd one though ...)

I think SaGa Frontier 2 > SaGa Frontier, based on what I remember and from what a few friends said to me at the time (yes, back in the day. ). I'll probably try that one out eventually when the backlog starts to dry up.

GamePro gave it a good review if I remember correctly but I don't think it was full of 4.5's.

That's basically what I've heard too.

Well my friend bought that copy I saw, so I guess I'll be waiting to see what he has to say about the game (the first one).
