I just wanted to see if anybody else feels the same way I do about the music from the Donkey Kong Country series. To this day, listening to the tunes from DKC 2 or DKC 3 (the snow theme is just incredible), gives me a feeling of just incomprehensible joy. I don't know what it is, but the guy who wrote the music, I forget his name, is up at the top of the greatest composers of video game music for me. Does anybody else feel the same way?

I certainly do. Donkey Kong Country 2 has one of the best scores ever, and it was all done by Dave Wise. The first game also has incredible music; I imagine most of it was done by Dave Wise, but Robin Beanland and Eveline Fischer are credited as well, I think. (Unless they just supplied sounded effects and samples or something.) All superbly great tunes. The first two games have excellent soundtracks.

DKC3, overall, I'm far less impressed with. I believe Eveline Fischer probably did most of the songs. The few songs that totally rule (the tree levels, the factory levels, and I think some others) were probably done by Dave Wise, 'cos they sound like his stuff, and they're far superior to the other tracks.

Dave Wise, by the way, did the music for Battletoads. Freakin' rock on... Awesome theme song. (More impressed by the NES game's music than Battlemaniacs for SNES... Hell, everything in Battlemaniacs sucks compared to Battletoads, absolutely everything.)

If you don't mind me linking to another forum - http://www.dkvine.com/interactive/forums/index.php?showtopic=2516 - a large thread devoted straight to the music from DKC2. DKC2 wins the prize, in my opinion, for the best video game music ever.

The one that I really enjoyed was the music they used for the water levels in the first one.

Hell yes baby.

If anyone "doesn't", they deserve to be ... removed from this board.

Seriously, the DKC series entirely had incredible music, and seemed like something beyond what the SNES could handle. Some of my personal favorites
(these are NOT specific names, just general names here):

- Water Zone in DKC
- Fear Factory in DKC
- Mine Cart in DKC
- Aztec Tombs in DKC
- Snow Mountain in DKC
- Bramble Levels in DKC2
- Castle Theme in DKC2
- Underwater Ship in DKC2
- HOLY FREAKING CRAP, WATERFALL LEVELS IN DKC3

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but honestly, EVERY song is good in these game.

And if you have not checked out ANY of the OC Remix's out for the DKC games, you are seriously missing out. They are incredible. And definently try to get your hands on Kong in Koncert (torrent available at ocremix.org).

DKC music = win.

I love the mine theme in DKC2. It's very simmilar to the canyon one in DKC3...

They're both awesome.

Musics in Diddy Kong Racing are awesome too (imho). They were composed by D. Wise too, especially Jungle Falls, Walrus Cove and Darkmoon Caverns are my favs

But musics of Donkey Kong 64 didn't impress me that much... for some reason Rare didn't pick D. Wise to compose them.

As someone who only listens to game music and some other soundtracks (mostly anime) I have to say that I like it. While is isn't my favorite music, it's certainly a lot better than most of the other music out there.
