I'm sure they've tried. Problem is their code sucks.  XP was supposed to be a total rewrite though, and it's certainly a hell of a lot more stable/less buggy than older versions. (You actually have to have a problem to get a BSOD.  ) |

| They're probably just working on new developer frameworks to replace their old ones. Of course, they'll still keep all the runtime libraries for all of their old technologies around (what, 50 different versions of COM and DirectX?), so the OS will be that much bigger. GDI will probably be replaced with something akin to QuartzExtreme in Tiger that handles all of the 2D graphics in VRAM, so I wouldn't be surprised if the GUI ends up being more responsive. |

I say they should just re-write it all from scratch and provide an emulator for the old API. Their current system, especially GDI, is a major pain to use.  |
