| I finally found a nice torrent of the newest leaked version 5048, and installed it in vmware, to my suprise, at first it didnt wanna install, mainly because it wasnt supported directly, when you tried to install to a partition, it wouldnt detect the partition properly...so i looked around, said I needed to install another os, in vmware first, then copy the vitrual drive file, so I look around, and figured out a nice way to do it, install reactOS, which is only 10MB download, so that all works, and I finally get it to install.. so far, from what I see, the aero theme, which is the default, isnt to shabby, and its pretty fast in vmware, I think if microsoft does it right, the full release may just be pretty damn good...so far though, there isnt many new things, except some GUI changes and some added things, but its supposed to be more secure and what not also...and the final release is supposed to use a new filesystem also...although right now it still uses ntfs.. so anyone else try it yet? if so, what do you think? |

| I haven't used one of the leaked versions, but I've heard some extremely scathing reviews from some windows sites recently. I've seen some screenshots leaked on those sites that Microsoft asked were taken down (btw, these sites were legitimately given a copy) and wasn't impressed either with the UI, it's still the same Windows with a different skin, and the words "Shut Do..." at the bottom instead of 'Shut Down" XD |

| I'm not a big fan of the way Microsoft tries to reinvent the wheel with each new Windows release. They always have to rearrange the GUI, remove useful things in favor of useless things, make the code a few hundred MB bigger than the last version, force you to buy new hardware, break compatibility, and generally make you learn Windows again [almost] from scratch. All for the low, low upgrade price of $99 (and Microsoft wonders why piracy is running rampant!). I shouldn't find myself totally lost moving from 2000 -> XP (I don't have it, but I've worked on computers that do). All the stuff that they cram in there, in hopes of making the interface nauseatingly user-friendly, just ends up backfiring, and I spend 5 minutes trying to do something that previously could've been done in 5 seconds. And even then, it usually doesn't work. It's no wonder so many people nowadays are switching to Apple and not looking back (my brother included)...  |

| Longhorn may turn out to be a bit of a disaster. Some of the features that were trumped about when it was announced have slipped, and probably won't be ready for Longhorn's release. Plus, some of these features are being backported to Windows XP, so unless there are some fantastic-super-killer features in Longhorn that aren't gonna be available for XP, I see no reason to upgrade. Personally, when I change my operating system next, it will probably be to whatever distribution of Linux is fashionable/easy to learn at the time (been meaning to get a new hard disc so I can install Ubuntu), or maybe even Mac OSX. |

| Dunno, Longhorn no longer looks promising when you have seen Tiger and some of the latest Linux distros. Microsoft really do have alot to catchup with. If they want to get anywhere. And yeah, I do have tried Longhorn... nothing impressive. Just stripped away features. | I think soon....linux will be the king...seeing as how mirosoft always seems to butcher windows....another reason is because there were rumors of a yearly fee for longhorn..which better not happen, or else people will just pirate it, or use XP...or switch altogether...which is what im thinking of doing, when I can get everything the way I want it. | |||

| The biggest problem with Linux is how hard it is to... let say mantain. Anyone who says that Linux have a crap installer probably hadn't installed Linux in years. Certain distros even surpasses Windows installations in both function and ease. The problem is that it usually stop to get easy as soon you want to change some configuration or installing programs. :/ But, Linux have gotten easier to use lately people say. So I think Linux could be more mainstream, even if certain nerds don't want that. |

| The people who say Linux's installer is crappy are probably those using a distro that doesn't have one at all (you do it all manually). BMF, a-freaking-men. Where the hell is Folder Options this time? It seems to move every time they release a new service pack.  As for Longhorn, I've only seen screenshots and I don't like them. The GUI is ugly and undoubtedly a huge resource hog. Microsoft seems to think that the most important part of an OS is eye candy. |

| Speaking of eye candy, I'm sure you've all noticed that Apple's GUI is very pretty. Mac OS X is a joy to work in. You know what happens with each new version of Windows (with shinier GUI each time)? It gets slower and requires more resources to run... You know what happens with each new version of OS X? It gets faster on older hardware! |

| Bah. Windows NT 3.51 is where it's at. Forget eye candy. I like my bland white background! I have a very.... weird idea on how one should deal with the problem of Windows sucking. Just use abandonware and plug in tons of aftermarket things. You might be laughing at me now, but just wait until I load the ultra-small and efficient Windows NT 3.51 server onto a 3 GHz monster! ...The only difficulty is drivers. Though I think Windows NT, as a whole, is still mostly supported, save for... DirectX problems? |

| vmware lets you install an os in a virtual environment so to say, you can run any os ontop of your original one, its slower then when installed directly on your pc, but they did a good job of making it a decent speed.. | I don't think I have enough willpower to change to Linux, even though it has better stability/security e.t.c. I'm just not one to like change. More back on track with the name of the topic.. I've tried running the beta on this computer, and I got too many errors "what would you exprect from a 6 year old computer?" I'll most likely use it when I get a new computer in a few months. |

| I'm just going to offer my two cents on Linux as a 'switcher'. I love -- absolutely fucking adore -- linux. In theory. In practice, I find it too much of a pain in the fucking arse, I can't do the things I want to do in it, it's too much hassle to make a change, etc... I switched to a Mac. In fact I switched to a Mac BECAUSE of Linux. It wasn't as much of a pain in the arse as I was finding Windows to be, and it let me do the things that Linux wouldn't let me do. I'm now very, very happy  |

| I think Microsoft should just start from scratch on an OS and go crazy. Like, have 3-D Desktops, like all those little things you can download. And they should also have it really stable. They could make the GUI very, very spiffy and 3-Dimensional. They should also have a slew of new programs. Then they will realease it! It will be called Windows Better Than Anything Else. =P Snika |
