I used to have a 28.8 modem, now that was slow. High speeds were 5-10 kbps back then. And 10 kbps was very rare.

My connection was down from 14:00 until 20:00 everyday during the summer of 2003.

It was Radio, and I think it was some overheating. The antenna was on some Silo, and it was the hottest summer ever too. (that summer where alot of people died in French...) it died competly as I just got Gunbound addicted. Luckily we still had the dial-up connection for another month or so before we got ADSL.

...and there is nothing wrong with dial-up really. Apart from the fact that you can't download files at amazing speed most sites do go at a nice speed. Especialy if you're using a browser with a good cache system. The worst thing with Dial-up in Sweden is the fact that it's pay-per-minute... it just makes you feel forced to do alot at the same time and quick too.

My connection speed says it's really high, but it's a tricky little bastard. Especially when I'm trying to play Halo. *grumble grumble*

Meh.

I have a 256kbps connection.

But a 1gb download cap for a month.

And that sucks.

You know, the speed down there is not the same thing as Internet speed if that's you're thinking.

Becuse of my router, my computer says that I have 100 mbits connection to the network. Which is true, however it dosen't state my internet speed, which is only 500 kbits. And honestly, the only time I get annoyed at 500 kbits is.

BTW, there are tools to test the proper connections in cases where you're behind a router like I was. My connection did deliver what it promised, I was happy to find that out of course.

1G is what I easily waste on a day on my 500 kbits connection... that happens whenever that I get the occonsially urge to test a random OS/Distro.

Well, I used to have 14.4, 28.8... 56.6... I think I'll refrain from stating my current connection though.

I'll still say my connection sucks 'till it lets me play FPSs with low latency (as in < 300ms).

While we're on the topic of sucky internet...

I've had support calls recently complaining of slow internet. The slowest recorded was 4kbps, but that was when we were able to get a reading... it did get so slow we couldn't clock it, but they could still "sort of" do things... (from our end we thought it was down entirely).

Same happened with my building too, we got slowness so severe that EDS (who manage the infrastructure) thought the link was down entirely.

Gee, I have an 8Mbit connection and I had 500ms when me and Kitten Yiffer were about to play Bomberman.

We have 56k at home and I think THAT

DSL here (256)

I'm unsure if I have a download cap ... if I did, I'm sure I would have gotten numerous warnings by now.

Hopefully, you don't have to pay for that lost month of service?

I have 3.0Mbps down/ 512kbps up...the only problems with my connection is my DSL modem/router of crashing. Every now and then, the modem crashes such that my modem sees the internet but the local network doesn't work. I have to reset the modem to get it running again...

mines almost the opposite of suck...although not always...according to speed tests is 1mbps down and 700 or so kbps up...the average dl speed is 250-300 KB/s speed...upload is like 100 KB/s.

although ive had dial up...and I can certainly say im never going back...I had 56k before the cable..and it was horrible..especially where I lived when we had it..it was like 10-30 kbps...

edit also..I only pay $19.99 canadian a month for this connection....odd how I keep seeing the same for like $29.99...

By the end of the summer, I'll probably have enough money for a T1 (or T3) connection and an 1TB harddrive, I'll go crazy (and see if those porn website claiming they have 500gb of porn really have that much)

You're going down ...

*laughs* What's that one connection, that basically powers an entire city? I don't know, I think I remember it sounded cool.

Random question basically.

There's a connection that could power an entire city? As in, high-speed for the whole city or electricity for the whole city? And what connection? :o

I'll post more in a few minutes, but considering how my modem would NOT sync for the last week... and how when it did, it would be connected for 2-5 minutes... Me thinks I've got you all beat. Minus Taryn. :\

Since my ISP has upgraded it's service -- I now have a 2.56MB download connection for my DSL (I used to have only 256KB before). I have yet to experience any downtime since the upgrade. However, when it was at 256KB, I was experiencing downtime about 1 hour every month.
