I can't tell... is this a homebrew game or a hastily put together emulator??

http://www.idiottoys.com/2005/05/psp-hacked-to-run-games-off-memory.html

If it's the latter, then I may just get a PSP after all!
How cool would it be to play all the hacks from the Mario World forum on that baby...
Mmm....

Or you could just get a, say, GBA and flash cart (that'll run emulators, right?). It turns my stomach to think there might be a USE for the Memory Stick.

It turns my stomach that someone would actually try to take the time and put SNES roms on the PSP... Probably run choppy or just a really bad framerate too.

"OH! LUK AT ME! I PLAY SNES ROMZ ON PSP! I RULZ J00!"

Personally, you are wasting your time with this particular avenue. Spend your money wisely, since the general economy is going to hell.

I'm not surprised if that was just a picture, showing what the PSP can do.

And oh, nice to see that the reverse enginnering on PSP have been succeful as the DS reverse engineering. Maybe I should post another thread about the DS one thought.

An GBA can emulate SNES, but without sound and choppy framerate. Both DS and PSP should be fully capable for SNES emulation, and i'm expecting to see one for both handhelds.

I'm very sceptical of this. I didn't even know there were any development kits available for the PSP. It could just as easily be a video of Super Mario World playing on the PSP.

Well it got my interest because the PSP screen is very VERY nice.
I do currently own a DS, though, and not a PSP.
And while I'd love to see things like SNES emulation on the DS, I just feel it's going to be easier for Joe Public to get things like this running on the PSP.
Though having said, the PSP is very expensive...
It's launching in September here (Europe) at

DS and PSP should both be more than capable of SNES emulation. I just wonder when we'll start seeing DS flash carts.

Well, they have already been able to execute DS code from a GBA cart in severeal ways.

So as far, it seems easier to start it from the GBA slot than trying to make a own cart. They use something called "passme" or they hack the firmware.

PSP's more powerful than a GBA, which can run some SNES roms at low framerates. I would think most 8-bit/16-bit systems could be emulated on it without any problems. DS might not be *as* powerful but I think it could get the job done as well.

I don't see how emulation on the PSP is waste of time. If you really want to gripe about it, video games in themselves are a waste of time but that's not stoping me from enjoying some emulation. Flash carts are the same thing as Memory Sticks anyways. They both hold data only the PSP has more options than any GBA could. I look at it as a blessing. That means I can play FF6 on the go insted of hauling around a laptop. Did you guys even read the next link? They are already coming out with programs for the PSP so you can D/L movies onto your Mem Stix and so that would make UMD movies obsolete befor it's 6 month aniversery.

In otherwords...this $250 + whatever the mem stix costs has replaced my PC that not even finshed being paid for. I'm not trying to start rivalry or anything but I can hardly see how this accomplishment is a waste of time. But this is only my opinion.

The whole emulation on a PSP was bound to happen. The sad thing is American PSPs cannot have any Home Brew program or emulators until the hackers find out how to bypass the security stuff on it. I guess Sony wised up before they gave Americans the gift of the PSP. Sigh...

No, the REAL wiseup is that you'll have to cough up for a memory stick to play unsigned code, thus ensuring that Sony still gets a little bit of money off piracy and emulators.

Actually, there's been some progress since the PassMe.

PassMe: extra hand-built device stuck in the DS cart slot carrying a Metroid cart on it's own back that fools the DS into running from the GBA slot... in DS mode.

WifiMe: PC-based program that (ab)uses Download Play to load a small program that fools the the DS into running from the GBA slot.

FlashMe: also known as Project Chiyodajo, a full-blown firmware hack. Once installed, a startup keycombo fools the DS, and the Download Play system's security is broken. Needs a PassMe or WifiMe to install. Subsequent installations require neither. In fact, once installed, the other systems' hardware can be sold. They recently removed the Health and Safety screen, among other cosmetic tweaks.
