Yeah, Ziff. See my newest signature.

My main gripe with Protestants - I'm not sure which sects, specifically, though I know this to be a general belief - is their reliance on faith over deeds. Faith is important, no doubt, but I entirely reject the notion that one can live a terribly sinful life and still be saved just by virtue of belief in the Savior. I wager that one's destination might be associated with his faith, but that a virtuous and loving life will override ignorance of (or simply lack of belief in) Christianity.

I always had a problem with that too.

Actually, children are born Christian. Jesus Christ said to his disciples to bring the little children to him, because they belonged in the Kingdom of Heaven. So children are Christians through virtue of being children.

That will most likely be my only post in this topic. I'm tired of religious discussions, since it's basically the same thing over and over again.

No. They're born Bobisms. Bob Almighty said so. He also wrote a book, therefore it's true amirite?

I'm being serious, yes. Through Christian dogma, children are granted entry to Heaven because they are children. This, of course, doesn't mean that children make a concious descicion to believe in God or Jesus Christ the day they are born. Only a fool would believe that. Children are ignorant to religion for many years from their birth, but since they are children, they will enter Heaven, should they die (which, of course, would be a tragedy).

(Not that I actually believe in Heaven, I'm talking strictly about what is Christian dogma here)

Maybe so, but that doesn't make them Christian. That would take a concious effort on their part.

I don't care how you personally interpret it, but the "rule" of thumb is that you're not a Christian unless you personally make the will to do so. Infants lack the necessary brain power to make such decisions.

Ummm.
Bible = Christian unbaptized = untarnished souls = Christians.
Ziff = Baptized without being asked at 1 1/2 weeks old = Christian without making conscience effort.

Answering a question like that amounts to saying "Do you think Koopa exists?". That's how I look at the question. I think the bible is interpreted too literally and may be a collection of stories with a hidden meaning sort of like fables.

Giving thanks at meals:
Why is this? As Bart Simpson said "Dear lord. We paid for this stuff anyway, so thanks for nothing."

Is it belief that God can change the weather to make crops whither and die? Are you giving thanks that you have mouths that are capable of eating? I'm not really familiar with the bible. What exactly did God create? Just our planet? Or the entire universe? If we ever find life-forms on other planets, is religion going to claim them as "God's work?"

I'm really curious about what the bible mentions about the universe. How vast it is, and the life-forms ofcourse.

Read the Old Testament, the prophecy of Ezekial is pretty weird, and mentions space-time relations. Moreover, various Apocrypha bring up topics like this, and many more Jewish holy books examine the vastness of our surroundings.

Did you read your first link?
The second link's name says it all.
It doesn't dispute the historical existence of Christ.
Your final link is the matter of faith.

Your first link, which would require the legitimate holding of these books and their sources, is the only one in there that really interests me. The others hold too strong a bias, but the first link serves to have a direct and scholarly critical look at his existence/all that jazz. I asked if you had read it, because I was wondering if you had read the legitmate sources cited within the link.
