Hmmm... I may sound stupid, but I am going to go out on a limb here: The elevator only goes up to the seventh floor, and for some reason not up to the 8th, and he lives on the 8th floor. |

In the morning when he is leaving he is tired so he has to catch the elevator, to use up as little energy as possible. When he gets back he travells the elevator to the 7th floor gets off and to burn off excess energy, or for excercise he walks the rest of the way. |

Oh wait, Kirby said if he said if there was something wrong with him, he would give away the answers. And I think you've had a puzzle like this before... So, my guess is that the highest button on the elevator he can reach is 7. He cannot reach 8, 9, or 10 because he is too short. So he must walk the rest of the way. Brilliant one, Kirby! Did you make that one up on your own? |

No, he didn't, I seen it before. And I'm 99% sure you got the answer Kefka, and I would've said that too if I had been here earlier |

During the second world war, there was a footbridge over a ravine between germany and switzerland. It was guarded by a German Sentry. His orders were to shoot anyone trying to escape from Germany and turn back anyone who didnt have authorization to cross. He came out of the sentry post every three minutes. A woman despirately needed to escape, and could never hope to get a pass. She could sneak past the sentry while he was in his post, but it would take at least 5 minutes to cross. there was no place to hide under the bridge, so the sentry would certainly shoot her with ease. So how did the woman manage to escape? |

When the guard went back into the post she snuck up to his post and hid behind it till he came back out again. When he was done with his check she snuck across, giving her six minutes to get across.

I'm going to assume that the woman is trying to escape from Germany (if that's not the case, then maybe the guard would let her by because his orders don't involve people escaping from Switzerland). Is it important that it's a woman rather than a man escaping? Is the guard's post at one end of the bridge? Does the solution involve staying on the bridge the entire time (i.e. no climbing into and out of the ravine)? (edited by Jagori on 05-26-04 03:04 AM) |

When he went on his little break, she started to cross the bridge. When he came back, she was about half way along, and all she needed to do was to pretend that she was coming from the other side. Not having the needed papers, she was turned "back" to Switzerland. (edited by Felix on 05-26-04 02:07 PM) |

Blah, I think I got scooped by Felix here I misunderstood the guard's orders - I thought he would allow people in, but not out (that's what I get for trying to answer a puzzle at 3 am )

A woman was running from bandits when she came to a bridge. With her were two, 10 lb gold balls. The woman herself weighed 100 pounds. Next to the bridge was a sign that said "Maximum weight, 115 pounds" Surprisingly enough, this was 100% accurate. She needed to desparatley cross the bridge with the two gold balls, but there was no time to bring them over seperately.... so how did she manage to get them both across? |

He ordered the pilot to fly to a different airport and radioed his demands. In return for the flight's safe release, he demanded 100000$ in a bag and two parachutes. When the plane had landed, he was given the items. He then instructed the pilot to take off at a fairly low altitude towards the original destination. When they were over a deserted part of the country, he took the money and jumped overboard. He was never found. Why did he need two parachutes? |

For the money. Had he just droped the money, not only would it not survive the fall intact, it would land far from wherever he landed. |
