Could anyone else other than The Jones's have done this same thing?

I was thinking were Mr and Mrs Jones short. They needed a lightbulb changed and they didn't have a ladder of anysort. Mrs Jackson on the other hand was of a normal hight and could reach the lightbulb to change it.

Had they accidentally locked themselves in some room that could only be opened from the outside, and phoned Mrs. Jackson for help?

Both Mr and Mrs Jones are signing an important document (divorce papers maybe) and they needed someone to witness their signing of the documents, to prove that both of them did in fact sign the documents, they asked old Mrs Jackson to be there as the witness.

Being on an extreme economical outlook, he wants to use teh least number of qeights to enable him to weigh any number of pounds from 1 to 40. How many weights does he need and waht are they.

I will accept two answers for this problem, both worth 5 points a piece.

The other answer has the use of both sides of the scale in which case there are four weights needed 1 3 9 and 27. This is because you can not only work by adition but also by subtraction of weights which therefore allows the numbers which are in between but cannot be achieved by simple addition.

Puzzle 39(5 points)

A weighty Problem, The Second Coming

This problem is downright devilish.

You have an equalarm balance and 12 solid balls, all of which are exactle the same size, density, shape, and color. Only one of them is lighter or heaver than the rest. You can weigh only balls against the other balls on the scale. Can you find the odd ball, AND tell if it is lighter or heavier in only 3 weighings.

I will seriously give 10 points to the next person if they can give me the correct answer on their first try.
